The Buildbase FA Vase Sixth Round

Recommended Posts

An anorak from another Forum was at this one and it sounds like Leighton Town are in for a treat on Saturday 28 March if they can beat Corinthian on Saturday:

FA Vase QF
Hebburn Town v Plymouth Parkway

atten 1705 (incredible support)
Massive round of applause for Hebburn Town as they handled the biggest match in their history superbly well. Their attention to detail was incredible even down to the branded beer mats. The Geordies came out in force to support their local club and the Plymouth Parkway fans did themselves proud as both fans mingled together to make a superb atmosphere with not the slightest hint of trouble. How it should be.
The game itself was settled just before half-time as Hebburn took a two goal lead and from then on never looked in danger. Plymouth Parkway supporters said it was the poorest their team had played all season. You cant but feel for them after nearly 900 mile round trip.
The clubhouse at Hebburn Sports Club is one of the best i have seen in many years. It feels more like a country club. As usual the Geordie welcome was super friendly.

All afternoon the music playing was Belinda Carlisle "Hebburn is a Place on Earth" and it only took 48 hours to get the tune out of my head !

Hebburn Town don't believe in letting the grass grow under their feet do they, they don't even know their opposition yet however I gather they are a very organised and professional Club and going places, let us hope it isn't to Wembley this season if Leighton Town can win at Corinthian on Saturday:

FA VASE SEMI-FINAL 1ST LEG SUPPORTER TRAVEL

Coach travel open for booking for semi final away leg

The club are delighted to announce that we will be working alongside our usual travel partner Westoe Travel (in association with Stanley Travel) to offer supporters coach travel to our FA Vase Semi-Final 1st Leg match on Saturday 21st March against either Corinthians FC (Kent) or Leighton Town FC (Leighton Buzzard), the aim is to complete the return trip on the same day.

Although we don't know our opposition yet we want to get ahead of the curve by opening up bookings for coach travel. We urge any supporters wanting to travel for this game to follow the relevant information and we are hoping we can take a really good crowd to this away game to get right behind Kevin, Mick and the lads.

INFORMATION
Coach Travel will be available regardless of who our opposition is for the Semi-Final, our departure on the day will be dependent on the opposition and we will update accordingly after their match on Saturday. We do know that the coach trip would be a long day but we are encouraged by our previous support in the earlier rounds that we will get a great number of Hornets fans along to this one.

Provisional Arrangements are as follows
- Seats on the supporters coach will cost between £25 - £30 (this is for children & adults)
- Departure on Sat 21st March will be from Hebburn Sports Club between 6am - 9am
- Seats can be booked by contacting Hebburn Sports Club and making a minimum payment of £25 to secure your seat.
- Supporters can start to book and pay for seats from 1pm Wednesday 4th March.

This is what tomorrow afternoon is all about isn't it, can you imagine Danny Webb plying his trade on the hallowed turf on Sunday 17 May against Bitton, Atherstone Town or Consett

It's all happening at Gay Dawn Farm folks with three goals in the space of the first thirteen minutes, Corinthian took the lead after only nine minutes of the proceedings however Leighton Town equalised immediately and no prizes for guessing who stabbed the ball home from close range following good work by his attacking partner in crime James Towell. Unfortunately Corinthian have retaken the lead so clearly it is not going to be all plain sailing and a walk in the park for Leighton Town this afternoon for the right to meet Hebburn Town:

Atherstone Town surprisingly take the lead on ten minutes against Consett who may have under estimated their Midland League Division One opponents

The half time score was Corinthian 2 Leighton Town 1 however, great news, Leighton Town have just equalised through, no not Danny Webb, Ashton Campbell although it may go down as an own goal due to a deflection following some great work by substitute Louis Collier who came on for Alfie Osborne just before the break

Here we go folks, 3-2 to Leighton Town on 65 minutes and again not Danny Webb although the great man did brilliantly to put in a superb cross for Ashton Campbell to nod home, it's turning out to be an old fashioned cup tie and Joe Sweeney's men appear to slowly be getting the upper hand over their Southern Counties League East Premier Division opponents.

Now 3-3 on 75 minutes, Corinthian are certainly proving to be a hard nut to crack for Joe Sweeney's men and it is reminiscent of the enthralling Fourth Round tie at Eynesbury Rovers, lets hope for the same result. It's also currently level at Atherstone Town, 1-1, Consett equalised on 61 minutes.

Another Corinthian goal on 90 minutes ?, 4-3, they are clearly a very good side who haven't allowed Leighton Town to get the upper hand and it's almost over.

Yes, heartbreak for Joe Sweeney's men this afternoon at Corinthian who would simply not lie down even when Ashton Campbell made it 3-2 on 65 minutes to give Leighton Town the lead for the first time in the tie. Consett won the other Quarter Final 3-1 after extra time but I think everyone connected with the SSML is feeling really disappointed right now.

It's difficult to find the words at the moment as I think most of us were quietly confident Leighton Town could over come Corinthian, either this afternoon or after a replay, which would have then seen the Bell Close attendance figure against 1874 Northwich two years ago smashed to smithereens for the visit of Hebburn Town on 21 March. It's far too early for 'recriminations', for want of a better word, but surely the scheduling of a midweek fixture with Aylesbury Vale Dynamos can't have helped Joe Sweeney's cause and was un-necessary as the game was switched from a waterlogged Haywood Way to Bell Close, Danny Webb played for ninety minutes on Tuesday, scoring a hat trick, however that would have been better saved for Gay Dawn Farm this afternoon when the great man would have been as fresh as a daisy:

Some action from yesterday and a Kent on-line match report, I see the attendance was only 351, is that correct as I believe around 250 Leighton Town fans travelled:

An anorak from another Forum was at the other Sixth Round tie yesterday:

FA Vase 6th Round (Quarter final) - Atherstone Town 1 Consett 3 after extra time - Admission £8 - Programme £2 - Attendance 950
Took advantage of last weeks postponement to make my first trip to Sheepy Road, where security was tight following on from incidents against Barrow several years ago, and more recent racism issues at the ground which prompted today’s programme to have a page filled with a players statement about the problems. There still seemed to be a small bout of trouble after Consett’s equaliser, with security, who looked like nightclub bouncers rushing to quell whatever was going on.
Atherstone took an early lead when a ball into the area wasn’t cleared and it fell invitingly to Ryan Quinn to fire into the bottom left corner from 10 yards. That was the only goal of the first half which saw both sides hit the woodwork and Consett miss chances left, right and centre. The half also saw a very annoying group of school kids aged around 14, who sat in front of me, changing seats with boring regularity, and basically paying very little attention to the action on the pitch. Fortunately they disappeared for the second half and extra time, and maybe went home and did their homework instead. One rather rotund schoolboy returned in extra time and bizarrely fell between two rows of seats and ended up on the floor looking hurt but still holding his tray of chips!!!!
Anyway back to the football and Consett equalised after an hour and it was a lovely low drive into the corner of the net from Jermaine Metz which took the match into extra time.
Two similar headers from Calvin Smith on 99 and 104 minutes gave Consett the win - the first from a long throw from Metz, the second from a Luke Carr corner and Smith almost got his hat trick in spectacular style late on with a lob from 45 yards that hit the bar.
Consett now play Bitton in the semi final, with the North East’s dream final of Consett v Hebburn still a big possibility.

Managed to get to the game in Kent on Saturday and a really disappointing outcome. At 3-2 it looked as if Leighton had it in the bag. A really nice set up down there with lots of facilities, and the crowd was 75% Leighton fans. Without meaning to sound too insulting (and like a poor loser!) Corinthian do seem to be quite a small club to have got this far. But good luck to them.

I think the issue in the end is that Leighton’s game plan does often seem to be to out score the opposition given the strength of attacking talent. However they came up against a team with a very good front three and in the end the momentum went their way in the closing stages.
