yes we did..... 1975.......Edward (T)heath was the prime minister .......When Labour got in another Referendum was held after public disquiet, but the British Public were told coming out of the EU would cost the country Financial penaltys and loss of jobs....2/3rds of the public voted to stay in.

It's something I hope to do, but probably when my child's finished her compulsory education - tho' I'd like to go sooner.

I fancy Normandy. Despite what the media want to portray, the French [outside of Paris] are bloody nice and friendly. They also stick up for themselves. Can you imagine this "head scarf" situation occuring here? No. Too many PC liberals here.

Yeah we loose our jobs to them & most if not all don't pay any tax on their earnings probably still claim every benefit going, don't pay for accommodation, car tax/insurance etc etc.

Although Unc is a bit over the top I do nearly agree with his comments. As I stated earlier, all immigration should be banned, except from people with specific skills or qualifications who can fill jobs where we have a staffing shortage. This includes people from Europe and includes British citizens who decide to marry foreigners. I know of an Indian lady who wanted to do what her mother said and go for an arranged marriage. She travelled to India and a marriage was arragend and then she was able to bring him over although he knew no English and couldn't work. I believe he's now working in a factory. It is my view that she should not have been allowed to bring him here.

 

Some of you may call me rascist but I am not. I have plenty of black and asian friends. This is about immigration and it should be stopped.

I don't know why people are just harping on about Eastern Europeans as being Illegal Immigrants.

Maybe because people are to willing to sit on the Fence rather then say god forbid, a different coloured people are abusing the System.

Lets not forget the African, South American, Asian, Arabic and Caribbean people who abuse the system.

Just identifying that some posts are going on about Eastern Europeans, yet they are part of a system where all nationalities abuse (Arabic Terroists claiming Asylum, turkish gangsters as illegal Immigrants, Yardies etc etc). Not sterotyping, just highlighting some areas of concern.

Like I said the situation is just getting more and more confusing...

 

Judging by the majority of the replies to the original post, I would say it's pretty clear that most people think the Asylum situation is clearly a cause for concern and that stricter controls should be put in place, in order to ascertain which cases are genuine and which are bogus - with an objective of keeping asylum applications to an absolute minimum. Also picking up on a point someone else made… I think it's also worth mentioning that the government should be doing more to investigate why a large number of asylum seekers from certain countries feel the need to come to the UK when it is clear they have travelled through many other safe countries en-route.

 

So what happens if a genuine asylum seeker or a legal immigrant committed an offence? How would they be dealt with? Don't try and tell me that it doesn't happen cos let's face it we all know it has happened in the past and will continue to happen in the future. Would the person be deported? - in some cases this could be five, ten or fifteen years after gaining entry.

 

On second thoughts I rather go with Uncle Urchin's idea - bit less confusing.

You see my understanding is that when a person enters a country illegally, that country must deal with that person. Though (and this really pisses my off) <img src="/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> they not only make to through the first country, but six others before turning up in Britain! If ran the country I would say “right where did you enter the first country illegally?” I then pack them off back there with a note saying these people entered your country illegally first, bloody deal with it and stop ignoring them as “it’s okay they are on their way to Britain”.
