TringArmy - I see your Reserve team will be in Division 1 of the Herts Senior County League:

A disappointing 3-1 defeat this afternoon for Tring Athletic Reserves at Oxhey FC in their first Herts Senior County League Division One fixture of the season despite going in 0-0 at the break, Manager Ian Butler was mistaken if he thought moving from the Suburban League Premier Division would be a walk in the park. Meanwhile the First team had a good 2-1 win over Leighton Town at Cow Lane in a pre-season friendly, Leighton Town took the lead however goals on 60 and 80 minutes shocked Joe Sweeney's men (photo below):

Not sure why you’d think that. Most of last season’s Suburban League side are now in the first team squad. The reserves are made up of new players, youngsters, our old 3rd team & a few old heads. Oxhey FC reached the Herts Intermediate County Cup Final last season so were never going to be pushovers.

Is the Suburban League Premier Division not a higher level then than the Herts Senior County League Division One, that's what I was suggesting. Also were you surprised that Harefield United went from the Suburban League Central Division to the Herts Senior League Premier Division, I see that there are no longer any SSML Club's playing in the Suburban League.

Suburban is definitely a higher standard but as I said most of our reserves were playing West Herts Premier last season so Division One of the Herts County seems the right fit for the moment. 26 players in the reserves inter club game last night & fitness was an issue at the weekend. That will come given time. One promising “youngster” may even make the first team bench on Saturday.

Tring Athletic Reserves (pictured) got off the mark on Saturday with a narrow 1-0 win over Knebworth at Cow Lane, following their disappointing Herts Senior County League Division One bow the previous week, losing 3-1 at Oxhey FC. James Butler netted on 70 minutes to finally break a dogged Knebworth's resilience, even then the visitors came close to an equaliser forcing a good save from Tring Athletic stopper Jonny Pitts and hitting a post close to the end. Next Saturday (19 September) Tring Athletic Reserves travel to Bushey Rangers who have just a point thus far from two league outings, joint supremo's Michael Churchill, Dan Wilson and Richard Priestley will be confident of adding another three points:

A disappointing third successive SSML Premier Division defeat for Tring Athletic at Arlesey Town this afternoon, going down 3-2, I wonder whether the Club are beginning to regret their over-cautiousness of Covid-19 during pre-season when all other Club's were happily, with no qualms, playing game after game Chris Juraszek and James Shaw's men were at home with their feet up hence still being behind the curve. The Reserve team however appear to be fairing better and beat Bovingdon Reserves 2-1 today at Cow Lane in a Herts Senior County League Division One fixture after their hard fought 0-0 stalemate at Bushey Rangers last week, Ian Butler's men haven't quite found their feet as yet following their defection from the Surburban League Premier Division however next Saturday's (3 October) visit to high flying Evergreen should be a good yardstick.

Tring Athletic Reserves Herts Senior County League Division One fixture at Evergreen this afternoon has been called off due to the inclement weather and the First team's visit to Second Meadow to take on Biggleswade United is currently very doubtful.

In addition to the photographs posted sometime ago from Tring Athletic's 2009/10 FA Cup Preliminary Round tie with Slough Town, at Cow Lane on 29 August 2009, here are some slightly more recent ones from a pre-season friendly between the two Club's at Cow Lane on Saturday 23 July 2011, Southern League Division One Central Slough Town won 2-0, see brief match report:

Credit to the Herts Senior County League for re-starting their campaign this afternoon, unlike other League's, Tring Athletic Reserves entertained Hatfield United in a Division One fixture resulting in a thrilling 3-3 draw. Hatfield United are one of only three sides in the entire League still unbeaten and they came very close to being put to the sword at Cow Lane, equalising on eighty minutes in controversial circumstances when failing to concede possession after Tring Athletic had kicked the ball out of play, very reminiscent of the Arsenal v Sheffield United FA Cup Fifth Round tie in February 1999. Next Saturday (12 December) the Reserves travel to Buntingford Town followed by a midweek fixture, on Tuesday 15 December at Cow Lane, against Oxhey. The First Team meanwhile return to SSML Premier Division action next Saturday when they entertain Baldock Town followed by a visit to Newport Pagnell Town a week later (19 December).

Photographs from Tring Athletic v Bushey Sports Club in a 2015/16 West Herts St Mary's Cup Quarter Final tie, at Cow Lane on Wednesday 16 March 2016, Tring Athletic won 6-2 with goals from Luke Dunstan, Joe Naylor and four from Chrisopher Stapleton and it appeared to be a hard fought affair from the photographs despite the comfortable looking score line. Tring Athletic went on to lift the trophy that season beating Sun Sports 2-0 in the Final at Vauxhall Road:

A nice team photo of Tring Athletic on the cover of their 2001/02 season programmes, this one is against Winslow United on Saturday 4 May 2002 in a Division One fixture where Tring were placed following the reorganisation of the SSML to its present format at the end of the 2000/01 campaign. It took the Club until 2003/04 to be promoted from Division One to the Premier Division where they have remained ever since:

A target of conference football in 5 years? Sounds great but unless you have someone piling in cash by the bucket load, that isn’t happening in Tring.

TringArmy - That's what Howard Wells just touched on a few moments ago on Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show, he said the Club happily signed up to his ambitious plan at the time when he arrived but then 'got cold feet'. It was an interesting interview with Ollie putting Mr Wells on the spot however he is an expert at batting off criticism and he made himself out to look 'the injured party' following his departure from Cow Lane just over a year ago.

This was a really odd thread from a few years ago and seemed to bring posters such as Tom24, Ivanbighan, LongShlongSilver, Seven Tears Boy, English Chris, Monkey8, BigKen, Whitley Bay, Britman and FCChairman out of the woodwork, I wonder what became of all those characters. Tring Athletic met Aston Clinton in a replayed, and much delayed, SSML Challenge Trophy First Round tie at Aston Clinton Park on 14 January 2017, the original tie took place on, an already late, Saturday 26 November 2016 which Tring Athletic won 2-1 however they had played an illegal player and, similar to the Worthing United v Edgware Town FA Vase First Round tie this season, the game was replayed when normally the offending Club is unceremoniously thrown out of the competition in disgrace, Tring Athletic won the replay 4-1 (see both match reports):
