Dean Buss was a quality centre half.

Leighton Town made the trip to the Recreation Ground on Saturday 26 September 1992 for a 1992/93 Diadora Isthmian League Division Three fixture, having won the South Midlands Premier Division the season before and got promotion. Aldershot Town obviously won the Championship only losing two League fixtures however Leighton Town weren't that far behind in fourth place and only lost the game at the Recreation Ground 2-1 in front of 2,104, they were one of the two teams who beat Aldershot that season, winning 1-0 at Bell Close, on Saturday 30 January 1993, in front of 1,522, does anybody remember the two games:

I wish Karen wouldn't keep deleting old images, here are the line ups from Leighton Town v Luton Town in a 1990/91 Bedfordshire FA Premier Cup tie at Bell Close on Tuesday 2 October 1990, Luton Town won 3-1 with Keith Walker netting for the hosts. I see Mark Townson was in goal and I wonder what he thinks of the young local chavs that support the Club now:

As I posted elsewhere, they’ve been poor this season with the squad they assembled and Tbf it looks like he realised that.

Big position that and a lot of good players there so will be interesting.

Bateman might have wished he’d waited.

What about Steve Bateman's 'partner in crime' Lee Bircham or wouldn't he drop down three levels after managing at Hemel Hempstead Town, at least Lee would play 'Webby' which he didn't seem to want to do at Vauxhall Road for some strange reason.

Finally a statement issued from Leighton Town:

Statement from the Executive Committee at Leighton Town FC
It is with sincere regret that the club received the resignations of Joint Managers Joe Sweeney and Paul Copson following yesterday’s game at Oxhey Jets. Both expressed their frustration that recent performances and results were below the standard they and the club expected, given the squad of players assembled during the close season. In such circumstances they felt it was the right time to leave, allowing a new management team the opportunity to rebuild the club’s promotion push.
Joe and Paul have done a fantastic job at the club over the past three seasons. Two FA Vase runs which saw the club reach the quarter final in each of the last two seasons were the highpoint of their tenure and without the intervention of covid lockdowns, promotion may well have been achieved last season. The committee, supporters and players are united in their thanks and appreciation for all their hard work and we wish them both every success in the future. They will always be welcome at our club and should leave us with their heads held high.
The Executive Committee is moving quickly to fill the first team managerial vacancy and welcomes applications from interested parties. Please send your cv detailing your coaching qualifications (and/or those of your proposed management team) and playing/ managerial career, as well as a short statement outlining your vision for our football club to: sdowney0207@outlook.com.
Applications must be received by 6pm on Wednesday 13 October. Formal interviews are likely to take place on Friday 15 October.
If you wish to visit the club for a tour and an informal chat before the application deadline, please indicate this in the email accompanying your application. We will then contact you to arrange a mutually convenient appointment.
Thank-you.

The Leighton Buzzard Observer have heard about 'the end of an era' at Leighton Town, it's so sad but Joe Sweeney sounded quite updeat on Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show yesterday as if the weight of the World had been lifted from his shoulders:

Make hay whilst the sun shines before Karen deletes the image. Here are the line ups from Banstead Athletic v Leighton Town in a 1971/72 Spartan League encounter on Saturday 4 March 1972, Leighton Town won 1-0 with a Roger Turney strike. Sadly Barry Swain and Mickey Thorn are no longer with us, Dave Langford was the brother of crooner Peter 'Peanut' Langford of Barron Knights fame who formed in Leighton Buzzard in 1959 and later toured with both the Beatles and Rolling Stones back in the day. Sorry to steal your thunder Karen:

Who remembers Leighton Town lifting the Isthmian League Vandanel Trophy sky high in 1998/99 (pictured), beating Windsor & Eton 1-0 in a Final played at Chesham United on Tuesday 4 May 1999 in front of a healthy 258 with the goal coming on half an hour. The Vandanel Trophy, back in the day, was a competition devised for lowly Division Two and Division Three Club's and Leighton Town never rose beyond Division Two whilst in the Isthmian League between 1992/93 and 2003/04 before winning Division Two and joining the Southern League Division One East on promotion in 2004/05. Surprisingly little or nothing is mentioned of the Club's Vandanel Trophy success in 1998/99 however it was not an achievement to be sniffed at with 42 Club's taking part and they defeated Wingate & Finchley 4-0, Northwood 2-1, Bedford Town 3-1, Wivenhoe Town 2-1 and Tooting & Mitcham United 3-2 along the way. Despite that success however joint Managers Paul Burgess and Andy McMahon were relieved of their duties at the end of the season and Reserve boss Guy Kefford accepted the offer to step up with Coach Sean Downey as his right hand man.

AlwaysLeighton - Thanks, yes I have since seen that that is the case and it's a relief, they seemed very nice guys who livestreamed the Cobham tie for free but they weren't Gerald Sinstadt or Hugh Johns although you wouldn't know who they were

Not Leighton Town or SSML related but some of you may already have heard the very sad news that iconic commentator from back in the day, Gerald Sinstadt, passed away this week, he was right up there with the likes of David Coleman, Hugh Johns, Barry Davies, Brian Moore, Peter Jones and Bryon Butler to name a few:

All these iconic commentators have a line, or lines, never to be forgotten don't they, unlike nowadays, David Coleman had '1-0', Barry Davies had 'interesting very interesting' at Maine Road, Brian Moore had 'it's up for grabs now' at Anfield and Bryon Butler had 'little squat man', prior to Maradona's wonder goal against us in 1986. Kenneth Wolstenholme had the most iconic line of all in 'they think it's all over' but he wasn't the best of commentators.

Blimey this brings back memories, was at the Aldershot game, was bank holiday Monday. Kerry Dixon was Wood's manager but the word at Slough was he'd been arrested on the Saturday, something to do with a pub he ran. The peerless Gary Abbott scored the only goal iirc.

No mention for John Motson?

Firstly good luck at London Colney this afternoon. I've never been that keen on Karen, sorry, John Motson as, although he is obviously good, he has a tendency to get on your nerves a little and that's never good with a commentator. I also felt that he unfairly out did Barry Davies over the years especially in FA Cup Finals as Davies, for me too, is one of the very best and also in other sports.
