Very true GlenSTFC but that isn't what I was going on about.

I just don't see Slough as a team likely to thrash anyone.

Hope to see a good number at the fans forum on Thursday where we will be happy to answer any questions on tactics, formation, squad, signings etc.

Far easier to do that there than reply to each message on here (mostly from 3spirit!)  about why we play that 4-5-1 formation and keep settling for those boring 1-0 wins! ?

Boring and imaginary  All season long we've  had four 1-0  wins in the league

But why does it matter if we thrash a team or not as long as we win? I always say result first, performance bonus.

Well I see it, as a measure of how good the team is progressing.

To be fair we are over achieving with the squad we have,IMO but people should know me by now, I love watching exciting attacking football and I'm not one for settling for mediocrity,in the way our team goes about trying to score goals.

Saying all that - it is only something to chat about on this forum! ?

I think there are two points to consider:-

1. a couple of seasons ago we had a team that played open attacking football that if I recall correctly scored 150 goals in a season, and we have now changed our style of football and will probably score half that number this season

2. if the number of goals in a match correlate to the degree of entertainment (and this is generally what TV highlights of matches focus on) then the 65 goals in 26 league matches we have seen this season is one of the lowest in our division

But for Managers, players an ardent fans, none of that was any relevance, it is all about points on board & league position.... it’s probably the new, floating or occasional supporters that want to be entertained.

Even the mighty Maidstone United could only win 1-0 at home to Oxford City on Saturday after stuffing them 1-4 away on 7th. December.

This season, in my book, was to avoid the second season syndrome in the Conference South and if we could, try to finish above the position in the table we managed last season. This will be accomplished easily, the way our team has performed so far. I never expected to be in the play offs[I know others did] but that now looks a strong possibility.

Big plus point is our team/management have found a way of grinding out results against all types of teams in the division and if anything, our team have surprised most, in how good they are doing but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see where our deficiencies lay and that is our ability to score goals for fun. I recognise it isn't the main priority to entertain this season, as the most important factor is to not lose and to match our opponents in the best way we can, so that in itself sets the team out to a containment type game plan.

As good as Dan Roberts has been up front on his own [he is a great find and willing participant],the 4-5-1 hasn't been a complete success, as often we are waiting/expecting him to get on to the killer pass, and at times he's completely isolated from our midfielders, and often he moves out wide looking for ball and then we have no one in the penalty area when the cross comes in. The tactic of a lone striker isn't all bad and to Dan's credit he's done remarkably well there, given his experience, and what our midfielders/overlapping full backs provide for him but I believe we shouldn't overdo the 4-5-1 at home games,as Dan will score as many goals, if not more, if he played as an out and out box centre forward alongside another striker.

My belief is crowds will grow, if spectators watch entertaining games and that means seeing goals go in. Bakes and Unders will say they get damned if they do and damned if they don't.That is always the case with some spectators but you can't label every fan like this. All I'm saying, is why don't we  play 4-5-1 away mostly, while in SOME of our home fixtures try being slightly more adventurous,as this season we've already accomplished the team in the division, will not be relegated and in all probability are unlikely to go up. Exciting games bring new supporters back.

At this level, the statistics of Shots, Shots on target and Corners are not published. In my opinion, in most matches Rebels create a satisfactory number of chances, but have a low rate of scoring goals from shots and corners.

For anyone interested, we do have some stats available from our games through https://football.quickscore.co.uk/home - click on the Results section and then any of the Slough games. This is compiled mainly by Ade through the scoreboard app which he also uses at away games.

Unfortunately it only tells you shots on target and saves. It would be better if we could see how many crosses come into the box and what ratio of goals come from them. It would also be good to know how many shots we have in total[on and off target]. I always feel we don't shoot enough but that might be a misnomer on my part, as I don't keep a record on it. To be honest, statistics bore me but in this instance it would be quite insightful.

At the end of the day, we know Slough have a good squad and are more than holding their own in the Conference South but whatever, there is room for improvement on the goal scoring/attacking front and hopefully, some of this season and all of next, will start to address this matter.

Shredding Green, in your teams you support on your home forum page you have loads of teams but you've forgotten the main one, that of Slough Town FC ! ! !

...........And you've missed Maidstone.....

3S, you expect me to state that I support SLOUGH TOWN on the forum page of which I am a member? For the sake of clarification, of the 26 matches that I have been to this season, 17 have involved SLOUGH TOWN. I have only been to see Maidstone United once this season. I lived there from 1956 to 1959 and they are a big fish in Conference South and potentially very dangerous at the business end of this season. Anyway, I have added SLOUGH TOWN to the teams that I support on the forum!

Feel free to make notes at the next game, because it seems it's only you that's really bothered by this.
