Mark Ducket has walked away from Eynesbury Rovers after four years at the helm and has joined Bedford Town where he previously played and is still a very popular figure at The Eyrie. I wonder what we can read into Mark's sudden departure from the Alfred Hall Memorial Ground and whether it possibly had something to do with the FA Vase exit to Leighton Town on Saturday where his side were leading 3-1 with fifteen minutes of the fourth round tie remaining. Apparently the appointment was announced on social media by Bedford Town before Eynesbury Rovers Chairman Matt Plumb knew about it himself which is unacceptable, the Chairman received a phone call at 8.20pm on Tuesday from Mark to inform him that he was leaving so something clearly triggered the shock exit: 

'Eynesbury Rovers learnt last night that Mark Ducket has left the club to join Bedford Town. A Club Statement will follow soon'

Bedford Town appoint Ducket as manager

Bedford Town have named Mark Ducket as their new manager.

Ducket, who played for the Eagles over two spells before his playing career was cut short at 29 due to injury, leaves his role at Eynesbury Rovers.

Director of Football and Operations, Jon Taylor commented: “We’ve had a lot of interest in the last 24 hours, and out of the candidates that put their name forward, I recognise that Ducks was the man to take us forward.

“He is a good young manager that knows a lot of players and we’re looking forward to seeing a positive reaction on Saturday.”

You really couldn't make it up could you, Eynesbury Rovers just happen to be entertaining runaway league leaders Colney Heath tomorrow following the controversial departure this week of their Manager Mark Ducket after four years in charge at the Alfred Hall Memorial Ground. Ash Fuller and Dean Greygoose take control of the side for the daunting challenge, Ash Fuller was Mark Ducket's trusted assistant whereas Dean Greygoose was goalkeeping coach, his son Jamie is also at the Alfred Hall Memorial Stadium. Beleaguered Club Chairman Matt Plumb, who has had a week of it following the trouble at Saturday's FA Vase tie and saw Mark Ducket walk out of the door with no notice, is hoping that Ash Fuller and Dean Greygoose stay at the Club and the three were due to sit down together on Wednesday afternoon to discuss plans. Mr Plumb has been knocked over in the rush since Tuesday night with expressions of interest for the job but is in no immediate hurry to make an appointment as a knee jerk reaction to Mark Ducket's sudden and surprise defection to The Eyrie, he is diplomatically quoted in the local press as saying "we’ve got two good people in Ash Fuller and Dean Greygoose who can carry the mantle for now and I’m hoping they will take charge for the rest of the season, at the same time if the right people pop their heads up and are willing to be part of the Management team we don’t want to miss out, it will be about gut feeling really, my initial feeling is Ash and Dean are happy to carry on and if they throw their hats into the ring we will see”.

Do we think that Ash Fuller, Dean Greygoose and Steve Kuhne's positions at Hall Road could be in danger tomorrow if they fail to get something at Edgware Town, Club Chairman Matt Plumb must be growing increasingly impatient since handing the reins to the trio following Mark Ducket's sudden defection to The Eyrie in early January. It is now seven Premier Division games without a victory including the disappointing 2-2 draw at home to London Colney, which was the Cotlandswick Club's only point in their last nine league fixtures, when Eynesbury Rovers conceded deep into stoppage time. Prior to Mark Ducket jumping ship, immediately after the 4-3 FA Vase Fourth Round defeat to Leighton Town, the Club were high in the table and on an excellent run of three successive league wins against Harefield United and Dunstable Town at Hall Road and a superb backs to the wall 1-0 win at Willen Road where the then prolific Jordan Brown scored his 18th goal of the campaign seven minutes from time, Brown hasn't netted at all under Ash Fuller, Dean Greygoose and Steve Kuhne which says it all, although he has been suspended for a number of their seven games at the helm.

It would appear that the miraculous transformation in Eynesbury Rovers fortunes, following back to back wins at Edgware Town on Saturday and against high flying Biggleswade United at Hall Road last night, is the return to the fold of their prolific marksman Jordan Brown from a lengthy suspension. Brown hadn't scored at all under Ash Fuller, Dean Greygoose and Steve Kuhne's leadership however netted at Silver Jubilee Park and on 8 and 90 minutes last night bringing his total for the campaign to 22 goals in 36 appearances, although he had emassed 11 yellow cards, one of the worst records in the Premier Division, hence his recent suspension:

Not directly Eynesbury Rovers related however I see that Mark Ducket will be continuing at The Eyrie next season along with his trusted Assistant Martin Standen and Coaches Ronayne Marsh-Brown and Gil Octave, I'm not sure whether he brought any of them over with him after suddenly, without any warning, jumping ship in January leaving a sour taste in the mouth at Hall Road where he had been at the helm for four years:

Not SSML but over 100 photographs from Diss Town v Eynesbury Rovers on 19 October 2013, in a FA Vase First Round proper tie from 2013/14, Eynesbury Rovers won 3--1 and went on to meet Tring Athletic in the Second Round losing 1-0 at Cow Lane. You can certainly see why Eynesbury Rovers walked the award for the best playing surface in the SSML Premier Division at last Saturday's Annual General Meeting, the Club also won the Huntingdonshire FA Grassroots Grounds Team Of The Year award:

Yes, that's right, it's strange as Jordan Brown never really performed for Ash Fuller, Dean Greygoose and Steve Kuhne but he loved Mark Ducket and has now followed him to The Eyrie, it will be a step up in class but Jordan is a very good player:

Photographs from St Neots Town v Eynesbury Rovers in the 2017/18 Huntingdonshire FA Senior Cup Final, played at Rowley Park on Wednesday 2 May 2018, which St Neots Town won 6-1, it was a repeat of both the 2015/16 and 2016/17 finals however prior to that Eynesbury Rovers hadn't contested a final since 2001/02, the 6-1 mauling was the biggest winning scoreline in a Huntingdonshire FA Senior Cup final for more than fifty years:
