i see hendon and hornchurch and no doubt a few others have video clips of the main bits of action from ryman games now on their websites.. I reckon we could have had that by now and probably at the best standard in the league, to go along with the best photos and match commentarys and stats page and message board and most comprehensive history and etc etc blah etc...

With Matt doing media studies at college and Ian's internet knowhow, it was one of the things that we wanted to investigate. Ian has had a webcam for some time, we just needed the time and opportunity to get everything sorted.

 

Unfortunately, our Chairman and public relations guru, Mr Ray Cross, didn't handle things too well at Maidenhead and the whole project went tits up. I understand Frances and Keith are trying to get a refund from the Charm School that Ray attended over the summer holidays.

Can you break down the cost by goals shown, Canvey clips would cost seriously more than say Hornchurch?

We're the Hendon video people.

 

We do video clips online for all Hendon matches and we are hoping to make whole game videos next season for sale in the club shop, to make the club a bit of money. Also plans are in place for a season review video with extended highlights. Also using the video clips we are able to have competitions such as "Hendon goal of the Season", and so on. The videos provide most of the visitors to the website (we are not the official site)

 

I thought the old CanveyFC.com site was excellent, and the new one's......let's say not so good.

if you have the whole 3 min clip of dave andersons 'long walk' you could sell that as a video on its own!! quality! add in the bit where he finishes off the 'you dont know what your doing' chant as an intro..

Indeed my Moving Image course at College has given me experience in filming all kinds of situations and fast moving objects such as footballs is one of them.

I actually bought a £450+ Digital Camcorder just into the new Season to use on my Course with an interest to use it at Football matches too. In fact the Maidenhead game in which we received our marching orders at was the first game I had brought camera to.

If anyone saw me during the first half while I was at the game, they would've seen me filming it, (Got about 8 minutes worth of raw footage and it didn't look too bad either! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />)

It seems everytime an error is made regarding the site (K/O Time errors e.t.c) they change it quickly after being mentioned on here.

 

It now seems, that thanks to Canv ( <img src="/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> ), they've decided to record the rest of our games <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

 

(We dont get 'em free on the net tho, probably have to pay about 10 bloody quid for it on tape!)

can we have the old one back..? make it the official one and let em vet match reports if they are that sensitive.. the message board can be 'off site' and independent if they dont like us slagging a performance off, inbetween raving about how good the fking team is for the other 38 games a season.!!

But what happens if the team plays badly? Will the tapes be edited by the CIFC thought police? Will the cameraman get a life ban if he films something that is not totally complimentary?

 

However, I suppose the prospect of match videos is very exciting, as long as the technology is there. Saw Ray Cross with a stack of Betamax tapes under his arm yesterday!

Boys, isnt it about time you just gave `em boll#x! and just got the old site up and running again..If even in a reduced capacity its got to be better than the other one, (reports on this forum are fantastic by the way) its got such a boring story I cant even remember why your banned...have you tried to go to a home game lately? Are you under legal threat or just living in fear of the Canvey Mafia? (Which is just how Nazi Germany began!!) Come on boys get the shop open for biz again..

Just to set the record straight, the old website isn't 'banned' and it never could be. The website address is owned by First Hosting, who also host the site. This is a private arrangement, nothing to do with the football club, and is funded personally by Ian Walmsley. However, the club banned Matt and Ian from Park Lane near the start of the season which effectively meant that they could no longer take photos or do match reports for the CanveyFC site. Because of my involvement it was assumed that I was included in this ban but, in fairness, the club later agreed that as I was out of the country at the start of the season I should be excluded from the ban.

 

The site is 'closed' simply because I can't run it on my own. Ian took all the photographs as well as looking after the technical side of things. Matt did all the research work, grabbing information about opponents, new signings, league tables, form guides and the dogsbody stuff that takes ages but isn't always recognised for the important role it plays. That left me with match reports and comment. I also took on the role of news gatherer and it would be an unusual day when I didn't get al least one email from either Frances or Keith asking me to put onto the site that we had signed so and so or released someone else. I was also asked to post news articles that gave information to fans about re-arranged games or canellations.

 

On a Saturday evening, from as soon as I got home, I would have about four hours work to do, same thing for Matt. If Ian took photos he had a similar workload. Quite simply, without Matt and Ian I just could not find the time necessary to make CanveyFC one of the best non-league sites in the country.

 

There is nothing stopping me from cranking up the old site once again but doing it on my own it wouldn't be a lot better than the one that has replaced it. Rather than let the standard slip we (Matt, Ian and I) decided to go out on a high note. I think the reason for the poor quality of the new site is similar. I think it is only Keith Johnson who does all the writing (my apologies if I am wrong on this one) while the technical aspects are bought in from a website company called Furst Co Uk. It's an 'off the shelf package' that is mass produced for any organisation that wants a relatively simple site with few technical problems to sort out on a daily basis. To buy in the expertise of three people like the First Hosting team would (even though I say it myself) be very expensive, even for a club with a lot of money to spend.

 

There have been a few suggestions about why I don't write reports and let the club vet them, prior to posting. Sorry - no way Pedro! The reason why I declined an earlier offer to be involved in setting up an official club website was that I wanted to enjoy the freedom of speech that being unofficial gave me. Remember what I wrote about the Slough FA Cup game a few years back?

There can be no excuse for players who so obviously lack pace and are beaten to the ball regularly; for players who fight shy of tackles and let attack after attack through or for players who simply can't distribute a ball, so that hardly any attacking situations get set up."

 

Do you think I would have been allowed to write that if my report had to be vetted. Do you think you will ever read anything similar should Canvey put up a dismal performance in the future? Will the new website ever give you such honest opinion? It remains to be seen, but I would not hold your breath.

 

I hope that clears up some of the confusion, without uncovering old sores.

It looks as though me and the family will be moving to Cumbria sometime this year - anyone object if I take CIFC with me? <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Apart from a visit back here and there, the only two times I believe I would see Canvey (apart from on Sky) would be at Carlisle (IF they go down, picked up a lot lately) and Barrow AFC (7pts off top of Unibond Premier at the moment).

 

I would love to be able to watch video clips of the games though and hope something happens towards this end sooner rather than later.

I believe that my Supporter's Notebook column in the programme has been vetted as on the very odd occassion something I've said has been removed.

Obviously the piece has to be checked for spelling and typing errors and any wrong information needs to be removed as it could cause offence to Canvey or the opposition club.

I made a comment jokingly about the referee for last season's Hayes games who had an awful match saying "he looked like he was auditioning for a part in the muppet's show" This was removed although these days you can't criticise refs without being up for a disrepute charge!

On the other hand I've criticised the side especially after the Slough debacle (maybe not intensely as Merv) but nothing was removed or edited.

I think you'll find most clubs will vet what goes in matchday programmes or on websites although I don't see why they would stop something that was criticising a team's performance. At the end of the day football is about opinions and people have a right to voice them.
