Torquay United release Manny Duku by mutual consent

When Gary Johnson was manager of Cheltenham Town, he signed Manny Duku from Hayes & Yeading United, a club four levels below Cheltenham. Duku had scored 39 goals in 33 matches for Hayes & Yeading.

He only scored 1 goal in 11 matches for Cheltenham before being loaned to Barnet. I saw him play against Braintree Town in the FA Cup and Salford City in National League. IMO he lacked control both in the air and on the ground when receiving the ball and was liable to lose possession. His strength was going forward with the ball. Overall though, to me he looked to be playing at one level too high. He scored 3 goals in 6 matches for Barnet before being loaned to Halifax Town where he scored 3 goals in 12 matches. In the close season,
Gary Johnson, now manager of Torquay United signed him but he failed score in 13 matches.

On Saturday 7th. December 2019, Manny Duku was released from his Torquay United contract by mutual consent. It would not surprise me if he signs for a club pressing for promotion from step 6 to National League.

Chelmsford City have scored 4 goals in a league match 4 times this season, Maidstone United and Wealdstone have both scored 4 goals in a league match 3 times this season. Rebels have yet to score 4 goals in a National League South match.

I am sure that we will soon see Manny Duku signing for a new club - probably one looking for promotion from level 6.

RR - Just to repeat what I wrote in my last three paragraphs :-

"It would not surprise me if he signs for a club pressing for promotion from step (should have read "level") 6 to National League.

I am sure that we will soon see Manny Duku signing for a new club - probably one looking for promotion from level 6."

He is available - but he might have plans or hopes as to where he goes next. That's what I was trying to say "He is available".

Are you his agent Will ?

As I live in Iver which is an easy journey to The SKYex and one of my work colleagues from the early 1980s in Southall is a Hayes & Yeading United season ticket-holder, I follow Hayes & Yeading United quite closely. I expect them to be back in
National League during the next decade.

And like most of us true supporters, I follow the tracks of former managers and players.

I will be interested to see where Manny Duku goes next!

The only problem I see with that SG is that if a club gets up into the National League the attendances have to increase accordingly.

As far as I remember when H&Y were last in the Conference National their crowds were pitiful and they were eventually relegated.

Looking at Manny Daku's scoring record, he's only really ever scored any significant number of goals whilst playing at H&Y in div 1 east.

It seems that whenever he's tried to play at a higher level than div 1 the goals have dried up.

That's true RR  but he's also  been a bit of a sick note over the seasons  with some disciplinary issues  when subbed in a match whilst with Barnet he tried to demolish the dug out  Not imo a team player

He kicked the Barnet dugout after being substituted after 35 minutes in the FA Cup tie against Bristol Rovers at The Hive. He had been stretchered off in the previous match at Hartlepool United and passed a fitness test.

John Still was Barnet manager at the time. We will see if he is interested in adding Manny Duku to his Maidstone United squad.

It appears that Manny Duku has taken his young family back to The Netherlands which was agreed with Torquay United when cancelling his contract by mutual consent. That might be a permanent move but I have read no further comment regarding his future.

I must have got something correct in my observations of Manny Duku playing for Barnet in the National League.

Yesterday on New Year's Day he was back playing for Hayes & Yeading United in Southern League Premier Division South!

My ex work colleague who is a Hayes & Yeading United season ticket holder said of Manny Duku after the second match following his return, "He does not seem the same player as before. We shall see!!!" So far he has scored 0 goals in 3 matches.

On a par with most of his clubs except one.

I squeezed my way into The SKYex Stadium crowd of 125 at Hayes & Yeading United v Poole Town last evening. Manny Duku, who had scored his first two goals on his return to the club against Dorchester on Saturday, didn't do everything right in the first haf but caused Poole Town a few problems. He received a yellow card but scored the equalising goal on the stroke of half time. He was badly fouled in the second half and received lengthy treatment. When he got back on his feet, he had words to say to the
assistant referee which did not meet with the approval of the referee, who gave Manny Duku a second yellow. This did not meet with his approval and he had to be pulled away by a member of staff before walking extremely slowly across the pitch on his way back to the dressing room.

What do you mean,RR?  Shredding Green's comment or Manny Duku? ha ha! No offence mean't SG, just humourous how RR worded it.

I take it you mean't Duku. I actually think he's a good player and was mightily impressed with him when he was playing for Kings Langley. It doesn't sound great from him last night but as I wasn't at the game I won't judge him too harshly. If he was maliciously kicked unfairly, I understand why he would have the hump but of course it could have been an innocuous challenge and been a total over reaction. A lot of things happen in the heat of the moment and some of the fairest and best footballers get dragged into repercussions because of foul play by an opponent. It doesn't make them bad players.

Of the games I've seen Manny Duku in, I regard him as an asset to have in a team but perhaps currently for whatever reason, he may be on a downward trajectory currently but I certainly wouldn't write him off.
