lovely stuff
54 minutes ago, littlehampton said: A couple of observations on recent posts regarding support and our recent home attendances at the QE2 this season. Whilst success on the pitch has always been a key influence in boosting attendances, this season there is little doubt our gates are suffering because of Spurs moving into their new stadium, with its substantially increased capacity, now attracting gates of circa of circa 58 - 60K, plus the fact that a number of their home fixtures have clashed with our own. Enfield is a key catchment area for Spurs support, and quite a number of our supporters are members of both clubs, so it is an extremely difficult situation. I agree with LS that we need to do everything possible to develop our association or tie-in with them for the benefit of our Club. Regarding the distribution of free entry tickets, to local schools, clubs, etc, it is a commendable initiative, but it would be interesting to know the return, and how many took advantage of the offer. The Isthmian League seemingly arranging Haringay Boroughs Home fixtures to coincide with Spurs's away fixtures doesn't help our attendances either. andyetfc
How many of those 'extra' Spurs supporters used to watch ETFC? Yes, they have a new stadium, and increased gates, but if the product served up at ETFC was consistent and good, then I reckon more people would come along. djwilf
Not sure we can compare local non league football with the new whl. Worlds apart. Only been to an nfl game there and whilst we have played some good stuff this year it s hard to suggest people would choose Donkey Lane over a trip down the A10. There are more distractions now than ever and I remember refereeing a few years back when there were 10 or 15 games on the playing fields. On Saturday I saw three!!! Everything is diluted and with the advance of tech can only see it getting worse unfortunately. Id love to see a large crowd but after the past few performances cant see a big change against Ebbsfleet and we may be without our starting centrebacks....? littlehampton
Whatever the reason(s), our recent performances and results do not inspire confidence, and I think it would be fair to say we will start our FA Trophy match on Saturday as underdogs, rather than favourites with home advantage. That said, we are well capable, on our day, of causing an upset against higher division sides, as we have done in cup competitions earlier this season. Ebbsfleet are having a difficult time themselves this season, and are at present at the wrong end of the National League table. They will probably see our FA Trophy match as a great opportunity to get back to winning ways, increase confidence, and move away from the relegation zone. Up until recently, Town have delivered some excellent performances, and are still well in contention for the play-offs. This Saturday we will need to raise our game, against Ebbsfleet's full-time professionals. It certainly won't be easy, but if our guys go out and play to the best of their ability, showing plenty of ambition and determination, they will definitely be in with a shout, and an upset is always possible in tricky, wet, windy conditions. The crowd will have a BIG role to play on Saturday. We need to hear plenty of home support and encouragement for our guys throughout this cup-tie. We performed well to beat a very good Maldon side in the last round, let's see if we can progress a stage further in this match. See you there. Good luck everyone!
