The Non League Football Show

Recommended Posts

Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show should be an interesting listen this afternoon at 2.00pm especially the feature on Harpenden Town, there is also a feature on the Essex Senior League and their challenges over restarting, League Secretary Michelle Dorling was on the show recently and it was such a great listen so hopefully it will be her again. Unsurprisingly Boreham Wood are on ahead of their FA Cup Second Round tie at Canvey Island tomorrow evening and Holmer Green, Hemel Hempstead Town and, surprise surprise, Aylesbury United are featured with Ollie being The Ducks biggest fan. I see that the Suffolk Non League Show was on again last night, what can possibly be featured on it and who on earth is Matt Blake, has anybody heard of him, like I said before the show can't hold a candle to Ollie Bayliss's two hour BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show at prime time Sunday afternoon but at least it's on at 8.30pm so you can drop off whilst listening to it:

Ollie Bayliss was at The Valley last night commentating on the Charlton v Milton Keynes Dons League One fixture for BBC Three Counties Radio, Milton Keynes Dons surprisingly won 1-0. Also last night Hemel Hempstead Town won 3-2 at Havant & Waterlooville with goals from Kyle Ajayi, Omar Rowe and Josh Lacey and despite having Nathan Cooper sent off after just fourteen minutes so no doubt Lee Bircham will be on Sunday's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show, all the goals came in the first half:

Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show will no doubt be an interesting listen this afternoon at 2.00pm especially the features on Milton Keynes Irish, Colney Heath and Ampthill Town following their FA Vase exploits yesterday, there are also features on, surprise surprise, Boreham Wood who are into the FA Cup Third Round for the first time in their history, Barton Rovers, St Margaretsbury, Ware and Risborough Rangers. Lets get ready to rumble in an hour or so folks, Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show will include features on beleaguered National League fans, the FA Trophy and, wait for it the SSML, I wonder if one of the League's hierarchy will be interviewed by Ollie. Also on the show will be features on Welwyn Garden City, St Albans, Harpenden Town, Leverstock Green, Cheshunt, Dunstable Town and Biggleswade United. It's definitely not to be missed this week:

Lets get ready to rumble in less than half an hour folks, Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show will discuss the FA’s Tier 4 guidance and the impact of the recent announcement on the Hellenic League, Bedfordshire County League, Hertfordshire Senior County League and our very own SSML in order to try to make sense of it all. In addition Flackwell Heath, Oxhey Jets, Long Crendon and Newport Pagnell Town will be featured. Fill your boots:

Disappointingly Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show is not on this afternoon, I'm not entirely sure why unless Ollie has gone away for Christmas for a well earned break, hopefully the show will return as normal next Sunday (3 January). Ollie sent a nice Christmas card to all his listeners and fans, it shows how thoughtful he is:

A nice New Year greeting from Ollie Bayliss, he always puts others first doesn't he and never thinks of himself, I've never met him but he must be such a nice guy:

At least we know for sure now folks that there is a God, Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show is back this afternoon at 2.00pm and it should make for particularly interesting listening. Ollie will be probing Berkhamsted FC's landlords, Berkhamsted Sports Ground Charitable Association Limited (BSGCA), about why they intend selling Broadwater for development, I wonder whether his interview will be with Berkhamsted Raiders Chairman Keith Pollard who is a Director of the BSGCA:

So what did we think of the show this afternoon then, don't all rush at once, it has certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons hasn't it, as well as the article in today's Non League Paper. Listening to the show, and reading between the lines, it is blatantly obvious that Berkhamsted Raiders are behind the whole thing as they have the most to gain without having to put their hand in their pocket.

I see Ollie Bayliss was at Adams Park this afternoon commentating on the Wycombe Wanderers v Preston North End FA Cup Third Round tie for BBC Radio, Wycombe Wanderers won 4-1 with goals from Fred Onyedinma, Joe Jacobson, Josh Knight and Alex Samuel. Luton Town also got through but Stevenage, Milton Keynes Dons and Boreham Wood all exited the competition, no doubt Boreham Wood will be featured on tomorrow's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show along with Lee Bircham's Hemel Hempstead Town who lost 2-1 at Dorking today in the National League South:

Lets get ready to rumble in less than two hours time folks, Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show will discuss the Hellenic League with their Chairman Bob Dalling and deciding the season, local Manager and scout Adam Fisher will discuss his battle with gambling addiction and also featured will be Tring Athletic with their Chairman Bob Winter interviewed, St Albans City and, surprise surprise, Boreham Wood:

So what did we think of Ollie Bayliss's BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show that has just finished, it was a great listen as usual particularly the interview with former Baldock Town supremo Adam Fisher about gambling and the interesting discussion with Tring Athletic Chairman Bob Winter although I was a little surprised Mr Winter wasn't asked for his thoughts on what former Chairman Howard Wells had to say on the show last week about the Club lacking ambition and later reneging on his forward plan when he first arrived at Cow Lane.

Lets get ready to rumble in less than half an hour folks, Ollie Bayliss will discuss the survey recently sent out by the FA to decide the season at Steps 3-6 level on his BBC Three Counties Radio Non League Show and will also talk about funding for Non League including the good work being done by the Football Supporters Association (FSA) to assist and support Club's in the current climate. The standard of Refereeing will also be discussed and there will be features on Colney Heath, Tring Athletic and Aylesbury United, fill your boots:

So what did we think of the show then folks, it was a riveting listen as per usual although the Referee went on a bit didn't he, Ollie certainly doesn't cut his guests short and I would have much preferred to listen to Colney Heath supremo Ryan Thompson for a lot longer. I'm obviously not criticising however Ollie plays six songs each week and at roughly three and a half minutes each, that is twenty minutes taken out of the show when he could have another feature or a guest, if he has to have music then why not Back Home, Blue Is The Colour, Good Old Arsenal, Ossie's Dream, Diamond Lights, Three Lions, World In Motion, Nessun dorma, You'll Never Walk Alone or the John Barnes Rap for example.

Who was the Referee?

It's the Anfield Rap which was co-written by Craig Johnston. John Barnes on lead vocals. ?

The Referee's name is George Roberts, he is from Liverpool originally but moved down to Bedford when he was 41 and started Refereeing, he is 76 now and is retiring after 35 years with the Bedfordshire County League. Have your paths ever crossed out of interest:

How unlike a ref to be full of their own importance! Actually that's stereotypical, seen some good and some bad at this level, only a couple I would classify as Manwairing-esque. FWIW PetetheGreek is very good on the line, got a sense of humour too (essential if the match involves Jets and the industrial language of Mr Atkins ;)
