Margate and their situation...

I don’t claim to be in possession of all the facts here, but do I understand the Margate situation correctly:

They knocked down, blew, destroyed the ground in Margate with a view to rebuilding it with the help of the CC. The CC has now said “actually we are not going to finance it”. The FA is saying “no ground, no conference footy for Margate”.

If this rendition is correct then what is the problem with Margate continuing its ground sharing with Dover? The Dover ground is perfectly acceptable as grounds go (a bit of a pig to get away from after a match), but it has quite big stands and seating which if I am being honest are in better condition the stands at Stonebridge road! (Volunteers with paint brushes and spare cans of red paint maybe should offer there services!!!! grin.gif ).

Other clubs have had extensive ground sharing contracts whilst work is done (or not done) on there own grounds. Fulham at the moment springs to mind and a few years ago Charlton’s Valley ground was in bad shape and they ground shared with Crystal Palace and West Ham for ages.

I may well be missing something, but what makes Margate different from Fulham and Charlton, other than their league positions?

The Council (Thanet District Council Not Kent County Council) are the landlords they have nothing to do with the redelevopment other than as the local authority who have to give the planning permission. This permission has not been given because Margate cannot show at this point in time that they have the financs to proceed with the project.

The FA are saying nothing at all. The Conference have ruled that both Northwich and Margate must have Conference Graded Grounds of their own by the dealines set. (Northwich is 1st April Margate is either 1st April or 31st May)

Different rules for different leagues. The Conference are not prepared to accept open ended groundahare agreements which is why they have set deadlines for them to end. Both Margate and Northwich started their groundshares at the same time, but Northwich have a new ground almost completed and Margate don't.

Well I think this is just wrong. It should be the same rules for all! What's the state of Margate's ground, could they return there without doing the planned work?

I was looking forward to local games against Canvey and Margate next season. Oh well! frown.gif
