Thanks Karen, here's a report on the proceedings, it sounded like a very close affair throughout:

Division 1

Shefford Town & Campton 3 Enfield Borough 1

A proper anorak from another Forum was in attendance at this one last night:

Spartan South Midlands League, Division One –
Shefford Town & Campton 3 Enfield Borough 1
Attendance 76, of which at least a quarter were ‘hopperazzi'
Admission £5 including 12-page programme
Bottle of Becks Blue and 2 packs of Mini Cheddars £3.70, coffee £1 (no hot food available – some clever fans phoned in a couple of Domino pizzas for the break!)

As expertly described by totallyuntamed in WDYG dated 24th August, the Shefford Sports Club has a large clubhouse and expansive multi-garden beer garden behind one end. To the left is the car park side with a small Atcost terrace stand straddling the halfway line with the base for a new stand next to it, and behind the far end and the right ‘dugout’ side have grass banks behind them as handy vantage points.

I suffered a 2-hour 55-mile journey to the ground but at least it wasn’t as bad as that of Enfield Borough, who arrived 52 minutes before show time having forgotten their kit. Star marks to Shefford Town & Campton’s secretary, who rushed off and came back in Clark Kent time with a Shillington FC kit for the visitors, which meant kick-off was only five minutes late.

Things got worse for the visitors as, despite a nip and tuck first half, within five minutes the red shirted defence were left red faced as they all stood and let Henry Snee trap and slot home a left wing cross from six yards out. Mitch Bateman Foley doubled the lead in the 24th with a speculative 30 yard daisy cutter which bounced in front of and past keeper Jamil Shallo.

Ten minutes into the second half, Enfield Borough brought a sub on which meant, due to the rushed kit issue, they had two number 12’s on the pitch. This didn’t faze the Bedfordshire side, least of all Snee who flicked a lovely 20 yarder in for 3-0 in the 58th. The final score was reached with a left wing cross bullet headed home by Alie Bangura twelve minutes from time.

As mentioned, there was a ‘programme’ of hoppers in attendance, my evening enhanced by Andy FTM from Bury St. Edmunds, OTT from Oxford and his Bristolian fiancé, and local hero Wavendonian.

Another real anorak from another Forum was at this affair at the MK Irish Centre last night:

MANOR FIELDS, MK IRISH CENTRE
MILTON KEYNES ROBINS 1 Bedford 0
Adm £5 with team sheet stapled into programme shell.
Tea £1

What a wonderful, fascinating venue, true ground porn!
Piles and piles of assorted junk and building materials are stacked up at the rear of the long grandstand, with the ultimate item being the transit pick up with smashed windows parked near the corner flag!

Other items lay strewn amongst the banking behind the goal and to the left of the smaller grandstand, including a turnstile, floodlights, drainage pipes and a mower. The ground inspectors would be having kittens.

Interesting also to see the seats from the National Hockey Stadium, and some signage too.
Could not access the main Irish Centre building due to an auction taking place of more valuable assorted junk.
The game was livened up by the addition of a drum and out of tune trombone, which was absolutely brilliant.
Events at the Big Top next door seemed to require the attendance of an ambulance for some considerable time, possibly an act gone wrong.
Travel for me was by way of the nearby Fenny Stratford Station with its ex District Line Underground stock, and Bletchley. The 2150 service being very convenient after the game.
The Red Lion pub, a couple of minutes walk along the canal and over the swing bridge at Fenny Lock was a wonderful location for a pre match pint.

At one stage late in the game Brimsdown only had 8 on the field with one sent off and two in the sin bin!!! I’m not bothered how the wins come we just need to keep putting them together.

It’s usually the case that the club with the biggest budget wins the league

Dailydose - To be fair it is easily done, it happened when I was with Haringey Borough and Kentish Town when whoever was responsible for the kit simply forgot to put it in the boot of his car, a simple and honest mistake with all the stress involved on a matchday, nine times out of ten there is a spare kit available at the venue but obviously if there isn't then there is a problem.
