my only gripe is with Bakes for calling for at our players to play in the corners, when we are winning 2-0 at home and had 6 minutes of injury time to go, and was largely being untroubled by Hemel

No way would we concede two goals in stoppage time for not holding the ball in the corners …… *Hereford coughs *

Ha ha ha!  That Hereford game has a lot to answer for !

I know our managers would get stick if their team threw away a 2-0 lead and they get damned if they do, and damned if they don't but my logic is to go for the jugular, when at home and having the better of the game. If it was a cup game or a very close league encounter, say poised at 1-0 or 0-0 and both sides are getting opportunities to win then I understand the need to play it in the corners but last night we were in the ascendancy and should have gone for a third goal. We had Hemel rattled every time our team got forward. I just couldn't see what the panic was about, to go to the corners so early.  Anyway, it doesn't matter now, as it turned out rosy and we were worthy winners.

Yes a complementary report on the whole but 3G was mentioned a few times even a reference to losing on Dorking's 3G.

I'm not sure the argument that it favours the home team holds much water.

We've had plenty of sides who've come to AP and played some great football and have gone home with the points.

Teams play to their strengths and Hemel certainly a lot of the time like to play a direct game getting the ball forward to players like Alex Wall which in the main is not the way to play on 3G.

Of course there are times in every game when 'lumping the ball in the air' will work and will get you the point/s but on the whole I think 3G suits the sides with the players who like to play passing football on the deck.

Agree, a great game all round, especially first half where we played outstanding football to get a 2 goal lead. Motm for me was scotty Davies, looks back to the player he was at the back end of our promotion season rather than last year where the game sometimes seemed to pass him by. For me it’s a very similar situation with him as to James Dobson 4 years ago; came back to help out in a bad injury spell, got in the team and performances dictate it’s now very hard to leave him out. Could end up being one of our most important players going forwards.

Oh and the ref was awful, particularly second half. The foul on jack, the corner which he originally gave as a throw, the penalty on josh. But the one that really got to me was the booking of jack; I know he had warned him but the Hemel striker took the ball off him and moved it to the other side of the goal which jack then moved back and got booked. How many times have refs warned oppo keepers time and time again to only book them in the 95th minute and then jack gets booked in the 70th because their player moved the ball?!? Consistency please!!!

What a difference a game makes? Against St Albans I thought the referee had an excellent game.Last night the referee was terrible and gave a performance of 'how not to referee a game'. He got worse as the game went on but luckily for us he didn't affect the goals we scored.

Scott Davies is still a technically gifted player. His biggest problem is that he will try something daring, when in a totally wrong place to do it and gets caught out ie in front of our penalty area because he thinks he can roll back the years to when he was professional and  get away with it. On the odd occasion he does gets away with it but a lot of time he gets tackled and loses possession, which often drops our team into the sh*t. However, when he doesn't try the showboating stuff, he still has a lot to offer and his long range passing is as good as anyones in our team. Last night, he didn't put a foot wrong and his all round game was excellent.

No no no! I think you’re in the minority here, I was more than happy to keep it in the corner and learn from previous lessons.

I'm used to being in the minority but that doesn't change my views. Each to their own.

Agree that Scott does like the 'impossible pass' that more often than not doesn't come off and he can get robbed when trying his 'tricks' when in a dangerous position.

Like last night, when Scott Davies keeps it simple he looks a class player.

I don't always think Scott needs to keep it simple. I just think that he needs to be aware of what is being asked of him by his managers and his partners in central midfield. His experience and know how was a huge factor in our promotion season but once promoted and playing better teams, I thought he was struggling to adapt to the defensive pressing game that Slough wanted to play, and also got too rapt up on his ego by wanting to be the kingpin in midfield and not playing to suit the team.

Now he's back he has the chance to put those errors behind him, as the grass wasn't greener for him at other teams, and if grasps the mettle,he can be every bit as influential as he was in the promotion season. Another factor is who he partners in midfield.Certain players/formations suit the type of game he has got but there are players who actually hinder his game by playing in a similiar vein to him. Last night the balance to the team looked good but there have been times[not this season] when Scott has played entirely the wrong game to suit his central midfield partner and vice versa.

Scott is one of the more experienced players in our team but as players get older, they need to adapt how they play. Playing centre midfield is one of the most demanding of positions on the pitch and often you get the fittest players in there. You are not going to get Scott Davies running around chasing shadows and I wouldn't be asking him to but for me it's about him linking play, letting him have time on the ball and getting him to play passes to set players up, or keep the game flowing with the simple short pass , as long as he is willing also to make the odd tackle and put his body in the way and work hard for the team. I wouldn't mind him having a shot on the odd occasion or getting forward but he needs to stay focussed/disciplined, when to do it and when not to, which is not one of his strong points.

Not really an excuse these days as most teams train on 3G pitches, apart from that a very good report.

I am happy if they have a whinge about 3G.Psychologically  that is good if they think they may struggle to cope with a fast, passing game.

They do train on 3G and as I mentioned in a  previous post they have applied for and had granted planning permission to install a 3G pitch.

Maybe the saying "if you can not beat them join them" is appropriate here!!!

Thoroughly enjoyed the game last night. Agreed all players contributed to the display. We know what most of the players are capable of but it is good to see Max Worsfold beginning to show what he can do. I thought he played well Saturday and went up a further notch last night, with an increased confidence to take players on and put in some superb crosses.  We could see a strong partnership with Wellsy on the left.

Good attendance for a Tuesday night and if we continue to offer this type of display we should see an increase.

I find it a bit of a shame when we have done so well that a few people find they have to comment on the negatives with regard to players

Lets just enjoy the moment.

Nice to see you are adding more posts to our forum, Alan G, the more contributers the better [as long as they abide by the rules].

Like you I thoroughly enjoyed the match against Hemel. Slough played some fantastic football, particularly first half, and were deserved winners.

The reason for this response to you, is your line about 'a few people that find they have to comment on the negatives with regard to players'. I don't see fans offering many negatives and besides a football forum needs wide discussion on everything related to football for it to be a good one. If everyone just lied how good everything is, then this forum would be as dull as ditchwater!

I prefer honest views. I do not live in a world that offers me a rose tinted happy musical shangri-la, more's the pity!  We Slough Town FC fans, are not politicians, so we don't need to stick to party lines. The forum needs open, honest debate, as long as forumites keep it civil and abide by the forum rules set.
