THE GAME of STONES

Next Saturday my pre-season title tip MAIDSTONE UNITED are away to the current leaders WEALDSTONE.

With Maidstone United seven points behind the leaders after their 4-1 home win over Chelmsford City today whilst Wealdstone won 3-4 at Weymouth, it should be some match.

Wealdstone came out on top being 2-1 winners. Sounds like they were the better team for most of the game but had a nervy end to the game when Maidstone pulled a goal back. I expect Maidstone to gain their revenge when they are back on their home Kent patch.

Wealdstone have certainly got off to flyer this season, quite unexpected given their high turnaround of new players to the club, and a new manager at the helm, whether they can maintain this fantastic start is another matter. Maidstone are still likely to be around the top places come the end of the season. If Wealdstone are, it will be a surprise.

Won’t be a surprise to me, with who they ended up bringing in, they should be up there and so far are.

Well you are in the know, Neil, regarding wages/budgets and best players on the radar , I'm only talking from a layman's follower view, to what I've read about Dean Brennan, the supposed lack of budget at the start of the season and my limited amount of knowledge on the players signed. I did think they let 3 players go that they should have kept but to Dean Brennan's credit he did keep a few good players around to build the squad on but initially I thought they wouldn't have done as well as they have but as we both know, there's a long way to go. They won't get it all their own way.

They must be paying out a few bob now, than what they did initially. I noticed Dejon Noel Williams has gone on an undetermined loan period to Hayes and Yeading and another young player Kav Cotter has been playing for Farnborough, so Dean Brennan's initial signings are starting to depart, as he is now obviously sorting out who he rates and who he does not for his best 16.

I said 'surprise' because they haven't had the ideal pre-season and according to their forum their budget was significantly cut this season because they no longer had funds from their ex chairman Peter Marsden but that must be false as they've found finance from somewhere, to fund signings like Billy Clifford !

I think Havant will win the title, though.

Only one viewing but personally I wasn't impressed with Maidstone and only looked like a mid table team.

Wealdstone seem to have brought in the right players including the leagues joint top scorer with 6 goals Ross Lafayette.

Havant & Waterlooville's 4-4-0 undefeated start to the season comes under threat next Saturday. They are away to Maidstone United!

Put your money on Havant  ?
