Ryman League - Hornchurch 1 Billericay Town 1

Hornchurch 4th with 43 points, Billericay bottom with 19 points. A home win surely ? Let's look at it from another angle. In the previous four meetings between the two clubs Hornchurch have only won once. Billericay beaten once in the previous 6 games (against Canvey) - but drawn 4. Hornchurch having a lean spell in front of goal. Not so cut and dried now.

And it started so well for us. After 15 minutes a 25 yard effort from Bradley Allen came back off the crossbar with Weaver beaten, and fell to John Keeling who shot across goal and wide. We took the lead in the 31st minute after Lloyd Opara was brought down inside the area by Pat Sappleton, Vinnie John scoring from the spot. Billericay's Leon Hunter shot over from 20 yards ten minutes before half time but we could have gone further ahead just before the break when Gavin McGowan layed the ball off to Lloyd Opara after a searing run from half-way, who stroked the ball wide of the far post.

If there wasn't much action in the first half there was even less in the second. Danny Gay made a good save from a long range shot by Andy Davidson in the 70th minute but Billericay equalised just after Jordan Tolan replaced Andy Jones when a Danny Hockton bounced off the underside of the crossbar and crossed the line before it was hooked away. We stepped up our game after this and put the Billericay defence under some pressure but the defence stayed solid. In the last minute the visitors nearly took all three points when Gary Henty shot across goal from a wide angle with Danny Hockton failing to make contact at the far post.

Line-up:- Gay, Stephens, Kerrigan, Adedeji, John, McGowan, Graham, J Martin, Opara (Gooding 87), Allen, Keeling (Douglas 80). Subs not used:- Cowley, Heathcote, McCartney (GK).

To 'Ayes Supporter...We drew against you on New Years Day, chummy and scored the equaliser for ya too, so less of the pikey pub team and crticism at Hornchurch, thank you very much.

Perhaps you should look at scoring a few more goals yourself and playing more attractive football at your gaff, to help rase your paltry 280 average gate (figures as published in the Hayes programme - New Years Day).

Now be a good fellow and keep your pikey West London nose out of this classy bit of Essex rivalry.

Yeah, agree on their no 4. Excellent game. Shades of Adedji there.

Billericay have a potential star studded line up. Luke Weaver was the England U21 keeper, Justin Edinburgh is making a comeback and they had a guy out there called Michael Black who I beleive played for Arsenal in the Champions league once.
