After all the hype from Tyler Freeman on his Podcast and Blog, I understand that Ampthill Town were unable to send a team to Cogenhoe United yesterday and 'cried off', that's very surprising isn't it ahead of their SSML Division One opener with Langford on Tuesday evening and perhaps a sign that everything in the Ampthill Park garden isn't as rosy as it is made out to be. Still, you have to admire and respect Mr Freeman's enthusiasm, similar to that of AlwaysLeighton, it's refreshing from the younger generation who mostly only know about the Premier League:

Line ups from Irthlingborough Diamonds v Ampthill Town in a 1984/85 United Counties League Premier Division fixture on Saturday 8 September 1984, Referee Peter Walton went on to Officiate in the Premier League. The two sides locked horns in the FA Vase Third Round the season before with Irthlingborough Diamonds winning narrowly 2-1 at home on their way to the Semi Finals that 1983/84 campaign after Ampthill Town had beaten Soham Town Rangers, West Midlands Police and Braintree Town, all away from Ampthill Park:

An interesting Ampthill Town team photograph from the 1974/75 campaign when the Club plied its trade in the United Counties League Premier Division, finishing tenth, sadly some are no longer with us:

An interesting team sheet from a friendly between Ampthill Town and a Watford XI from the 1981/ 82 campaign, the likes of Graham Taylor, John Barnes, Ray Train and Wilf Rostron have trod the hallowed Ampthill Park turf then:

Here's one for Motty, sorry Karen, which hugeIy famous cricket pIayer has trod the haIIowed AmpthiII Park turf for the opposition, that is Wayne Larkins for Long Buckby in a United Counties League Premier Division fixture on Saturday 5 December 1981. Bedfordshire born and bred Larkins aIso pIayed for WoIverton Town, Buckingham Town and WeIIingborough Town:

An interesting team sheet from Ampthill Town v East Ham United in a 1981/82 FA Vase Second Round tie at Ampthill Park, Ampthill Town won 4-2 before bowing out of the competition in the next round at Irthlingborough Diamonds who were regularly getting to the latter stages around that period in time:

An interesting team sheet from Ampthill Town v Hendon in a 1981/82 FA Cup First Qualifying Round tie, on Saturday 19 September 1981 at Ampthill Park, Ampthill Town were unlucky to lose 1-0 with Hendon going on to reach the First Round proper that season losing at Wycombe Wanderers in a replay. Hendon's Paul Currie is Tony's brother I believe:

A team sheet from Pitstone & Ivinghoe v Ampthill Town in a 1998/99 SSML Division One fixture, at the Pitstone Recreation Ground on Saturday 1 May 1999, with Ampthill Town having been relegated from the Senior Division the season before however they were promoted straight back scoring 106 goals albeit only finishing as runners up to Bridger Packaging who folded as a Club shortly afterwards:
