It was good to find an FA Cup tie on Sunday in which the hosts were playing on their own ground, rather than as tenants, and at a venue that I had not previously visited. Winslow United were competing in the FA Cup for only the second time and were looking for their first ever victory in the competition. 
The ground is situated in the Winslow Sports and Recreation Ground. All four sides of the pitch are accessible, with hard-standing on two sides. The only cover is afforded by a small stand, just south of the half-way line on the east side of the pitch. Also on that side is the adjacent cricket pitch, the use of which is, presumably, why this game was switched to Sunday. Alongside the pitch in the north-west corner is a fenced-off ‘private’ croquet lawn – which I imagine had no bearing on the switching of this tie. 
This was an evenly matched contest, with the hosts from step 6 up against a side playing one level higher in the pyramid. Winslow drew first blood, with their #5 scoring from the spot after their #7 had been fouled in the area – there was 15 minutes on the clock, but there had already been a significant stoppage for an injury to the home ‘keeper. The keeper received further treatment later in the half, which contributed to more than 10 minutes of stoppage time and it was in the 9th of those stoppage time minutes that the visitors drew level. 
RGSG took the lead from the penalty spot inside the opening ten minutes of the second period; their #15 being fouled by the Winslow ‘keeper, after looking (to me, at least) suspiciously offside when the ball was initially played through to him. Another clattering in the penalty area eventually saw the ‘keeper replaced – it just wasn’t his afternoon. I’m not sure whether his replacement was from the subs bench or an outfield player already on the pitch, but either way, it didn’t look like goalkeeper was his regular position – certainly he was struggling with goal-kicks and soon passed that responsibility on to one of his colleagues. The hosts drew level when their #3 swept home following a corner. The stopwatch showed that we had reached the 85th minute, but in reality it was much earlier, given the amount of stoppage time that would be played; as with the first half, more than 10 minutes were added. During that period, the stand-in Winslow ‘keeper made one excellent save – even the nearside assistant voiced his approval – but he was eventually beaten by a fine wind-assisted effort, which proved to be the winner.
