Town 2 Bowers Utd 1

Recommended Posts

All goals in first half with Mr Dickson (Bowers Capt) scoring a lovely glancing header in his own net trying to ensure Billy Cove didn't nail it for town.

Towards the end of the second half Ian Cooper got clear and nailed a second 2 - 0.

Lee Digby was then adjudged to have pulled the attacker in the box, penalty 2 -1.

Second half Dickson tried some drama but Mr Ashley didn't fall for it.

Both keepers made some excellent saves.

A very enjoyable game of football, as both teams wanted to play and we had excellent officials.

New boy Daniel Francis looks a good addition. Ian Cooper looked good today along with Billy Cove as always.

Ian Cooper showed some of his old form, and a scored a great goal.

P.Coath (in the programme)has asked the fans to refain from criticising referee's....and i will abide by that.

I will now ask other people's opinions, rather than criticise.

1.What did everyone else think of the penalty decision.?

2.What did everyone else think of the ref adding on 14 minutes injury-time.?

3.Do electronic scoreboards limit the ammount of extra-time played in football (ie- would today's ref have had the courage to put 14 minutes on a board for the linesman to hold up.?)

Well done the ref. I thought he had a good game. Didn't see the penalty but there wasn't much complaining.

Thought Francis had a solid debut without looking outstanding.

Digby had a good game. I think in time he could more than fill Dave Allen's boots. He may not have Allen's pace or ability to take on a man but he certainly doesn't indulge in show-boating. His distribution of the ball was very good.

Ian Cooper seemed a bit more up for this one, consequently he saw more of the ball. Would still have Clarkey in front of him, but he's heading in the right direction.

Left-back is still a bit of a problem as no one we've tried there has looked happy. Very bad news to lose Graeme Hall again - we need both Graeme and Rids back playing ASAP.

Digby - he must be one of the first names on the team sheet, his tackling and intelligent use of the ball and ability to play as part of a team leaves our beloved Mr Allen behind, let's move on

Coooper - seems to want ot play again, now if he can stay on his feet.....

Hall - yip is a problem- but he has been since his injury @ Edgware - he either gets fit or goes and plays for our second team in Ilford!

Keith Ashley had a very good game yesterday and so did his linesmen. He used his whistle well and let the game flow when needed. He talked to the players, which is something that we would all like to see and when he gave decisions, they were accepted. Did we see any players rush to stand around him when a decision when against them? No!

What was interesting was that some ETFC fans decided that because he gave a penalty decision against us, then they took it into their own hands to give Keith grief when he came off at the break. Totally uncalled for and the chief culprit apologised afterwards.

Those of you who have read my programme notes in the past, threads on this forum and Pete's excellent notes yesterday should now be realising that it is not in our interests to have a go at the officials. Enough said.

Well done to Keith and his assistants.
