Training was fine, Josh is behind where we had hoped due to a slight setback, however he had a good night with his rehab, hopefully in a few weeks he will be back training with us.

One good point is that when Josh is back fit, it will feel like a new player coming back into the team to give our team a boost. Let's just hope our team can cope, with so many out the frame.

Match preview from Dorking Wanderers website:

Match Preview

Just a couple of days away from Dorking's historic first-ever match in the National League South, the fixture comes at the end of what's been a testing pre-season period for Wanderers. An unbeaten run of results came to an end last Saturday away at Hastings Utd with a 2-1 defeat, and manager Marc White has acknowledged that performances need to improve as they step up into the new division. Despite that acknowledgement, home win's against East Grinstead, Kingstonian, local rivals Leatherhead and a Charlton Athletic XI have been registered, during a period where the squad has been gradually returning to a full complement over the weeks, injuries and logistics meaning the likes of Jason Prior, Lewis Taylor, Matt Briggs, Rory Williams and Jake Gallagher have fluctuated in and out of the side across the period. As previously reported Rory Williams has now left the club due to logistical difficulties.

Wanderers travel to Slough's Arbour Park with Lewis Taylor looking unlikely to feature through injury, as is possibly Elliot Buchannan, who has performed well in pre-season notching three goals. Nial McManus and James McShane have also impressed and will be pushing to feature in a starting eleven Marc White has described as consisting of 'players well accustomed to that level of football'. New signings Ed Harris, who has already demonstrated his composed qualities at the back, and highly-rated midfielder Jake Gallagher will also be pushing to make their league debuts this weekend.

SLOUGH TOWN

'The Rebels' enjoyed a solid top-half finish in their own debut season at this level last campaign and will be encouraged to push for the play-off's this term. Respected managerial duo Neil Baker and Jon Underwood have looked to make minimal changes to a tight squad, midfielder Max Worsfold and forward Ryan Bird being the headline new additions to the side, both arriving from Maidenhead United. Results have gradually improved over pre-season for Slough, after an entertaining 3-4 reverse to Eastleigh, they were defeated by Sutton United and Bournemouth U23s, before wins against Hayes & Yeading and Hartley Wintney. Local-born striker Dan Roberts has impressed throughout but is suspended for the opening trio of league games. Elsewhere, tough, experienced defensive brothers Sam Togwell and Lee Togwell will look to keep Wanderers at bay, and alongside the new signings forward Francis Amartey has become a fan favourite after showing good form in the second half of last season.

We look forward to what should be a good early test at this level for Wanderers away from home, on what is a big day in the clubs history. Manager Marc White is anticipating and hoping for good numbers of support, let's hope for a good result as well to get things going.

Due to health issues, I will be following developments on Twitter, probably in my local hostelry.

Get well soon, Big JR, and certainly enjoy your drink tomorrow but I hope Dorking lose tomorrow, so from me to you, it's as Meat Loaf sang ' Two out of three ain't bad ' !  ?

Having been outplayed in the first half, it was a much better second half performance and we were looking likely to come away with a point.

Then possibly the most inept performance from an official we are likely (and hopefully) to see all season totally ruins the game. I can only hope that an assessor was at the game and saw it and the linesman is demoted to the subbuteo league.

Where were all of the Dorking fans were were promised?

Hope the person who was struck by the ball is ok.

We go again on Tuesday.

It wasn’t a terrible game, Dorking has the majority of play first half and if it wasn’t for Jack could have been 2 or 3 up. We had to and did improve a lot in the second half and no complaints about the sending off. Francis was lively when he came on and gave us that spark but what a sickener to lose with more or less the last kick. Decent crowd but looking around there couldn’t have been much more than 50 from Dorking which was poor considering. I think today showed we did miss the players out and certainly 4 out of the 5 would have started today in my opinion. But we get a chance to redeem ourselves Tuesday and hopefully our first point(s) of the season.

Hmmm scrappy game, thought Briggs was the best player on the pitch and knew he’d score, typical. Wouldn’t say either team deserved to win, know it’s only 1 game gone but I am concerned by our lack of goal threat

What happed by the stand after they scored with their bench?!?!

On clear chances created Dorking deserved to win. I thought Briggs looked good first half but didn’t notice him as much in the second. They obviously have experienced quality players and I think they’ll be one of the many play off challengers. I won’t comment on individuals as it’s one game and you can’t judge anyone that soon although a few around me were more than happy to criticise and not support them.

I thought it was a typical opening day game with neither side really deserving the win.

We started bright enough but as Dorking got more possession and found some openings to our goal, our defence did start to panic somewhat, with the threat of Briggs, Prior and McShane.

Matt Briggs was bound to have a good game, with our weakened left side and him wanting to prove his worth after being rejected by our management, and so it proved. It made no sense to me why our defence went to pieces so early or why our entire team ended up defending and then just booting the ball out to no one up front in the first half. We are better than that. Luckily we managed to weather that storm and with ten minutes to go before half time we started to pass the ball better and Ryan Bird should have found the net with his chance. I was, though, still grateful, when half time came, as it was plainly obvious we needed to regroup and sort out our tactics.

Second half we improved but we really didn't look comfortable till the substituitions were made. Francis Armatey's introduction made a big difference and at last, we started to rattle Dorking's defenders. When Scott Davies and Manny came on I thought Slough would go on and win the game but after a poorly thought out short corner which came to nothing, and then that poor lady in the crowd getting hit by the ball, and a number of stop start injuries, Slough lost their momentum and then Sam Togs got his second yellow card and our team just ran out of luck, with it being sod's law that Dorking went and scored in the last minute.

All in all, plenty to improve on for Slough but not the worst performance in the world. I saw plenty to be optimistic about but it's going to take a few more games to get it worked out.

It reminded me a little bit of the opening game against Kettering a couple of years back when we got promoted to this division, not much in it but they may of been the better of the two teams overall.

Not great from the big signings over the summer but let's show some patience and encouragement. I thought Dorking looked decent.

When you hear so called supporters slagging off players in their first competitive game for the club, it’s absolutely ridiculous!

I was stuck at work so couldn't get there today but hearing about this sort of thing makes my blood boil!!

Just hope these ‘fans’ aren’t the type to then ‘brown nose’ these players when put in performances to their satisfaction. I just can’t comprehend how anyone can judge any player so quickly, love to see you them in a similar situation and see how they react to it.

My view of the game:

For the first 15 minutes or so of the first half we did reasonably well with Dorking looking at their most dangerous attacking down our left hand side.

For the remainder of the first half we seemed to lose our way and shape and it was only some good saves from Jack and some poor finishing Dorking that kept the scores level at half time.

We started the second half brightly but apart from a couple of half chances the Dorking defence still looked quite comfortable with their keeper hardly having a save to make.

The double substitution bringing on Francis Amartey and Manny seemed to spark our attack into life with the Dorking defence suddenly back peddling and looking vulnerable.

The game was looking all over a 0-0 draw until Sam Togwell was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

I stand to be corrected but from my recollection of the incident I think the sending off was completely avoidable.

I think it was from a free kick that we sent players forward including Guy Hollis which left Sam alone to man mark a player.

From the clearance the player got to the ball first leaving Sam with little choice but to commit a foul and receive his second yellow card.

On the Dorking goal, the linesman put his flag up for offside but then put it down which tells me and more importantly the ref that he made a mistake with his initial decision.

Having said that, because the decision was crucial to the outcome of the game I think any half decent ref would have gone over to the lino just to clarify the reason why he initially put his flag up then changed his mind.

Despite a really poor away support from Dorking a decent crowd which I think was announced as 850.

IMO Matt Lench was our stand out player closely followed by Jack Turner and Lee Togwell.
