HYU 0 Slough Town 2

Usually there’s at least one comment or did no one go that’s on here? Sounds like a ‘professional’ performance and the positives were winning and keeping a clean sheet. Shame to hear Joe got a nasty knock and now may miss the start of the season. What’s people’s views on him in what they’ve seen of him?

My cousin is a Hayes & Yeading United supporter and he said Slough Town bought plenty of supporters to the game yesterday.

HYU are poorly supported so I would have guessed there would have been around 100 from Slough. Not been to their ‘new’ ground but seen plenty of pictures and it’s a very odd one. Who’s clever idea was it to build one big vastly underused stand and have absolutely nothing else on the other 3 sides? Terrible decision... logic says build half of what the main stand is and have money left to put even 2 small covered terraces behind each goal.

Glen - when they started originally to build the ground they had plenty of money from selling Church Road. The then owner then decided to leave quickly with all the money as it was half way through being built, hence the weird set up.

The game - thought the Rebels did well and but for some good saves from the HY goalie we would have been. Positives - though Worsfield looked very good 1st half, Lench was also excellent, both Togwells played their normal high standard and Warren Harris looked dangerous. Subs - Dan Robert's was excellent when he came on and after Joe Grant went down injured, Francis looked far better than his first stint on the pitch. All in all a good pre-season performance and the only negative was Grant's injury.

Joe Grant - fantastic given his pre-season performances to see he has been signed for us permanently. He has looked excellent thus far and hope his injury isn't too serious and he is good to go soon enough.

I know the history just saying plans can be amended. Thanks for the match review sounds positive. Hopefully Joe won’t misd too many league games. Seeing as Briggs has missed 2 of the 4 friendlies and I’ve not read or heard much in the way of him doing much it’s unlikely he’ll be signed especially as we now have 3 wingers and having 4 would be tricky to maintain.

But why even at the design stage build a 1,200 seater stand when you only need to look at recent history to see their support was never even half that!!! Build a 500 seater to satisfy most non league gradings and add some covered terracing and that’s all you need and I think they could have done that with what that whole stand cost. I think the inside is only half finished too which is probably how it’ll stay for a long time.

Don't forget mate that at the beginning they were coming from Church Road where their attendances as Hayes were very good. I think the grand plans were stupid as well, the stand is excellent and as we sit, it's great for us if we ever go there. As they go along I'm sure they would love to add bits on the ends and other side, but as you mentioned, they aren't that well supported. Unlike us, they lost so many fans when they were homeless that just haven't returned, it's most unlikely they will earn enough to be able to continue the development.

Problem for Hayes is their close proximity to Brentford and QPR not to mention the other London league and non league clubs. They’re at their natural level now and last season when they won the league they averaged just 231.

Positives from Saturday was keeping a clean sheet and some good performances especially from Matt Lench who IMO was again our best player. I'm not sure what he's been doing in the summer but he's come back flying. Lenchy is versatile and can do a job out wide but with his mobility and skill I think his best position is central midfield.

Negatives was the injury to Joe Grant, also Lenchy had to go off with some sort of injury and I think Manny was hobbling a bit.

Just on injuries Lenchy had stud marks on his ankle, so nothing that is going to keep him out, Manny hurt his ankle but again shouldn’t be too much of a problem, Warren came off with a slight groin strain which might keep him out a week or two (hopefully less) and then Granty could be 4-6 weeks depending on how his ankle settles down.

Not a great day for us on that front.

Lots of positives from the game, and an even better afternoon/evening with a team bonding BBQ, hence the earlier kick off.

Its a awful ground in a crap area in my opinion. Its a grey ground ?. Not a patch on Church Road.

They were in the top flight of non league football when they left Church Road. A good few of the regulars and even some club officials went to watch Uxbridge FC and AFC Hayes when the club went to Woking FC to play there home games.

But even playing at Church Road in what was now the National League, they struggled to get much more than 600 home fans.

Yep agree.

Hayes as a area has changed a lot since the 1990s lots of there supporters moved away from the area and home crowds at Church Road were in decline from the 1980s even in there last season at Church Road the home attendances were being bumpt up big time by the away fans to be honest.

The club has made lots of mistakes in recent years and ground sharing at Woking FC nearly killed the club and lost the club a lot of good people.

They seem to have now steadied the ship and they had a great season last season.

While Hayes and Yeading have lost fans over the seasons, they are a well known entity and if they had a good run in the FA Cup I'm sure a few 'lost' fans would come back [ out the woodwork, so to speak].

As you say SavageBee, they had a great season last time out, and now back at step 3 have a good chance to build on that success.Given the way the professional game is going, with ever more costly outlays for the average football fan, and how non-league football has started to garner a lot more publicity recently, I think clubs like Hayes and Yeading, and Slough will see improvement through the turnstiles in the coming years, though I don't think it will ever match the attendances that were around in 50's and 60's, due to the amount of other things that can to be offer these days. Like the missus dragging you around the shops! ?

Hi All       Did anyone hear what the attendance was???   I would say somewhere around 200.

On the Hayes forum they estimate the crowd to be around 150-ish.
