RR that wasn't what the commentators said. I'll see what's being said in other places

Watching the England ladies game and when they got the penalty it was said that  the goalkeeper has to stand still on the goal line .

And is (now not allowed) to jump around touch the post and crossbar before the penalty has been taken.

I suppose they are evening it out as now the penalty taker is not allowed the start stop actions on the run up to taking the kick.

I stand to be corrected.

I think the ruling is the keeper has to keep one foot on the goal line. That could be an interesting one with VAR in the premier div next season.

Haven't heard that the penalty taker is now not being allowed to do stop start actions in his run up.

The Stop Start run up as been outlawed for a couple of seasons.  If VAR reviews every time to see if the keeper has not got his foot on the line when the kick is taken there will be a lot of retakes.  You will need to get used to the new handball law as it no longer matters if its deliberate, Its the position of the arm or hand. It will cause lots of debate. Another new law is no attacking player is allowed to stand in the defensive wall at free kicks, Must be at least 1 metre away I think. Its going to be interesting.

More rule changes to get us all confused, which then leads to unaware fans shouting at the referee and linesmen wrongly appealing decisions and gets everyone hot under the collar....... And the FA want good behaviour to their officials! Yeah, right !

It would be far wiser if the authorities were only permitted to change one rule per season. Then it wouldn't lead to all this confusion.

The continued tinkering of the laws doesn't make the game any better, why do they keep doing it?

The offside regulations are a joke and far from making it easier, it has become a lottery whether you get a decision or not.Linesmen have always come under fire from managers, coaches and fans but in my opinion, their job has become a lot harder than it ever was, and are subject to unnecessary flak at every game because of the over complicated offside rules. Now they're going to tinker with penalty decisions. What will be next? Making the goalposts bigger ! ?

I think the defensive has to have 3 or more players in it and then the oppo can't put any players in the wall.

Personally I can't see the reasoning behind this new rule.

I would like to see a rule change, that you can't waste time late on in games, playing the ball into corners.

Bakes and Unders will love that one! ha ha ha!

Actually I'd add an amendment to that, you can do it in cup matches but is not allowed in league games.

I Understand its to stop the attacker standing on the end of the wall and as the kick is taken pushing the wall out of line, It would have been easier to instruct the Ref to issue a yellow card to anyone seen doing this.

It sounds like making a rule just for the sake of making one.

I think there's also one whereby from a goal kick a player can go inside the area to collect a pass from the keeper whilst the attacking teams players have be outside the area.

"Playing the ball into corners" is not time-wasting as the ball is still in play. I think that would be a very dangerous rule change ... the referee able to decide when a player is time-wasting when the player is in possession of the ball and it is in play. I have no objection to a team running the clock down just like we didn't do at Hampton & Richmond Borough despite Bakes' clear instructions.

SG, I half said this tongue in cheek, as Bakes and Unders have ribbed me before, on my dislike of this tactic. However, I accept that it's all part of the game but to me I would prefer to see the ball in the opposition half,so we can try to score another goal rather than just hold on to get some sort of result.

I disagree with you that a rule change would be dangerous, as to me it is ungentlemanly to the spirit of the game and if you yellow carded players for it, it would soon stop but that is my opinion not anyone elses.  That is why I also differentiated between cup and league matches.      I find it completely understandable to play the ball into the corners when trying to see out a game in a one off cup match, to further your run in a cup competition but when it comes to league matches I would just prefer to watch teams trying to turn defence into attack, to win fairly and squarely.

But there are plenty of others who are  going for it.....

Personally think this will be the toughest league for years, and that is even if Aldershot get their reprieve.

Looking at the teams now [5/7/2019] you could say Havant and Maidstone mirror Torquay and Woking as hot favourites to win the title. Most teams now look like the best part of their signings have been done, going by that - Dartford, Hemel, Dulwich also look contenders. For me outside bets are Welling, Bath City, Chelmsford, Billericay followed closely by Slough and Chippenham but I also think St Albans, Eastbourne, Weymouth and Dorking are dark horses to upset the form books. Oxford City and Wealdstone should have enough to keep out the relegation places and take the odd scalp.

That leaves 5 teams trying to avoid relegation, with only 2 teams going down this year, I think Hungerford's experience of last season's relegation fight will be invaluable to them this season and so I think they will do another escape act. I think Hampton will also have enough about them to keep their heads above water. That leaves Braintree, Concord and Tonbridge as the sides most likely to falter.

.............But then again, I could be completely wrong ! ha ha !

Going by the quality and experience of their signings everything points to Havant winning the division.

As for other teams fighting for the remaining play-off places I think it's wide open more than ever and any ones guess who will fill the remaining 6 places.

I think you're right with your prediction for the sides who will fill the bottom 5 places.

My guess will be Hungerford and Hampton to fill the two relegation places.

The bookies have Braintree Town to finish 5th., Concord Rangers 8th. and Tonbridge Angels 21st.

So  3spirit, The Angels will save you from being completely wrong. Do I hear "ha ha!" again?

The bookies cannot have looked at what's happened at both Braintree and Concord otherwise they'd both be way down the pecking order.

I make 3spirit spot on with all three teams at the wrong end of the table.

The bookies job is to make you bet. Since when have they had the punters interest at heart? !

I think they are well wide of the mark, with the odds of Braintree and Concord. Tonbridge, though, looks realistic.
