Unfortunately Billy will not be rejoining Slough, he really enjoyed his spell with us, and under different circumstances I am sure we would see him back in our colours, but at this stage it is not an option for him.

We obviously wish him the best at his new club.

Well he wanted to play a lot closer to home so we couldn’t be any nearer! I guess it’s either financial or he has interest from clubs currently higher in the pecking order.

More money and I suppose it's full time. Pity we couldn't have got him but leaves another opening for the other midfielder, Unders mentioned [plus we might obtain Billy's services further down the line,if things don't run smooth for him].

That is unfortunate, I thought Billy was great for us at the end of last season.... his record of 11 appearances 5 wins, 5 draws and 1 loss is a title challenging record. Along with Francis Amartey he changed things around immensely for us.

Realistically though I never thought we would be able to afford him this season though.

After playing for Billericay signing Billy Clifford was never going to happen.

If I may say so, it sounds like you were wise after the fact, RR ! ?

Is this new player we are talking to a midfielder?  As surely now we will need one.

I make it we've got 6 midfielders already so not sure we are desperately in need of another one.

I wouldn't say we are in desperate need to sign anyone either especially now we've added Ryan Bird and Max Worsford to our squad.

However, I always think it's a good thing to go into pre-season and the start of the season with a few fresh faces around the squad, even if those player additions are just viewed as a short term thing. Occasionally you get a triallist who looks a better bet to start in the first eleven ahead of an established player for the first one or two months of action. I view them as summer players. August and September is about getting a few wins under your belt and settling into the season.

Now that we know Billy Clifford isn't coming back, I would suggest we have got room for another player in midfield, not urgent I grant you but as I say going into the season, nice to have plenty of options in an attacking midfield sense.

Personally I’d love us to sign an experienced at this level or higher, goalscoring, creative midfield enforcer but maybe I’m asking too much! But hopefully the player we’re interested in has some of these attributes. Also intrigued who these 2 step 4 trialists are? You’d think they’d be at local clubs, maybe Bracknell?

Close season discussions make me chuckle.

Why and what particular discussions?

An experienced goal scoring creative midfield enforcer you say... so basically the complete player.... ha ha, not many of those around ?

Yes so have you signed him (or her...) yet?

I guess it's the paucity of activity that makes people overthink and speculate when the bosses have it all in hand.. didn't mean you specifically, Glen, but you did imply we should make prime Roy Keane our 18th squad member. We need to chill out and just let the gaffers do their job. COYR!

Michael I was hoping my ultimate player comment would be taken in the manner it was meant! I think we all by now should trust our managers judgements but it bugs me why certain fans get all uptight about other fans wanting to discuss everything and anything about the club they love??? I think it’s others who need to chill out!

MichaelSTFC, sorry to butt in to your conversation with GlenSTFC but I couldn't resist as you're broadly talking about forumites in general. The forum would cease to be,if fans don't give opinions on players, our club,non-league football etc. While there's bound to be a few that would like to see the forum shut down, I think there's a lot of fans who wouldn't want that [ myself included]. The managers will do what they have to do, regardless of fans opinion.

Yes, we have ups and downs on here at times but in the main it is one of the better non league football club forums around, and we are also fortunate we get worthy input from our managers and on the odd occasion someone from the board, so what's not to like.

Summer months are always hard for fans to find 'talking points' when football is not being played but the amount of fans that still come onto the forum in those months means that there is still plenty of subjects of interest on here and that is a good thing in my book. So in reference to chilling out, nobody needs to, as nothing untoward has been said.
