Really? I think I would prefer to see us gamble on a young up and coming squad player.

We gambled twice last season - Tommy Wood and Dejon. That went well...

A week before the start of the season, makes perfect sense to take a short term fix where you know exactly what you’re getting.

Scott Davies in the squad tomorrow and Bakes’ comments suggest he may be signing. Good player, seems a good lad and with injuries at the moment it’s a no brainer for me.

It's amazing how Scott Davies and Matt Lench have had a hard time at lower levels but can come back to Slough Town and put in an excellent performance in a position(s) where they are understood by our excellent Bakes and Unders management team..

Has Dave Winfield found himself a club yet?

If not, any chance he could provide us with some centre back cover until he does?

Forgive my ignorance,MC, but who is Dave Winfield?

Surely we can get a short term loan in also, to make up the numbers.

Even with the absences,we still have a more than capable side to take on Dorking and Hungerford.

To be pedantic SG, Matt Lench didn't go and play at a lower level.

A 6’ 3” centre back who was in the same Aldershot squad as Scott Davies & Louis Soares when they were promoted to the Football League, more recently at Ebbsfleet where he scored the winning goal in the play off final that got them promoted to the Conference Premier, and released at the end of last season as part of their financial cut backs.

I haven’t seen any news of him signing for a new club yet.

Sounds a good player but I would expect him to cost a fair bit. The other thing that our managers will be mindful of, is that Mark Nisbet shouldn't be written off. I think out of loyalty, respect and good management, that Bakes and Unders should/will bide their time with recruitment at centre half, as Nis may be back sooner than one thinks. It's not like we don't have any centre backs but I do see that we could do with another left footed defender of some sort. Trouble is the season is nearly upon us and getting anyone in that quick is not easy. Luckily we do have an adaptable bunch of players, so it's not impossible to fill in the problem positions.

I'm looking forward to casting my eye over Scott Armsworth today, as not seen him yet. He may not be ready for a centre back berth yet but you never know but you could give him a go at right full back and move Sean, Max or Simon into the problem left back slot for the Dorking match.

What happened was that on 20.11.18 he signed dual registration forms with Hitchin Town and Wealdstone. He played three Southern League Premier Division Central matches and one Hertfordshire County Cup match for Hitchin Town who finished 18th. in the level below Slough Town. He re-signed for Slough Town on 10.1.19.

Having seen him in the second half against HY last week, he looked pretty good. 2 footed, decent in the air and very calm on the ball. Obviously a young player, but looked like he had some good quality and you can certainly see he has been coached well.

I liked what I saw of Scott today. Looks a good find and one to keep around. Someway to go of course with him but plenty of promise. Confident lad which stands him in good stead. With Josh Jackman out, I would give him game time at right back but not in preference to Sean Fraser but as cover and with sub appearances to start with.

SG, when Matt Lench left Slough he signed for Wealdstone, it was only later in the season that he signed dual reg for lower league Hitchin (where as usual he was a success) to get himself match fit.

At no time did he have a 'hard time' at a lower level.

I see young Francis is the latest of our players to sign up to an agency. Selfishly I don’t see it as a good news as although there may be some decent agents out there, let’s be honest their primary purpose is to move players on or get them better deals (and in turn earn a commission).

Well said, Glen.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of players at step 2 are ‘represented’. But as we’ve seen at Slough the advice isn’t always correct. Will clubs now feel more pressured to place players under contract if they sign up to an agency even if the club feels the player may not yet be at a stage where they feel comfortable offering a contract (or can actually afford to offer one).
