Does that translate to if we signed him he would have cost a lot and therefore have to prove his worth? Let’s hope he doesn’t have a blinder when he plays against us!

I'd guess it's got nothing to do with money, just a judgement call as to whether he is better than the players we already have.

Tis a bit strange Matt Briggs asking to play centrally when he's been exceptional for Dorking out wide.

Agree that he would have to be something special when coming up against either Warren Harris on the right or Lenchy and Dunny centrally.

How could you leave out Baby Toggsy!

To be fair, Bakes and Unders don't get a lot of time to assess a player in pre-season, and from the two games Matt Briggs played for Slough he hardly stood out as this great player. His second match was better than his first but I didn't see anything to think wow! what a player.

Playing centrally in midfield is a lot harder to show all your qualities, and Matt offered nothing special that differentiated him from what our other midfielders can do. That is why he hasn't been signed.

It would have been good to see him in wide position but that wasn't to be.

He didn't look very comfortable in the Slough set up, probably more to do with the fact that he has been at Dorking for so long and that he didn't know many of our players and seemed like a fish out of water, given that he has gone straight back to Dorking. Some players thrive in a new environment but others just don't. It's a bit like starting a new job.You either take to it or you don't.

I feel non- plussed about him not signing, as his short time with Slough never proved whether he was good or bad, as a midfielder.

Scott Davies in the squad tomorrow and Bakes’ comments suggest he may be signing. Good player, seems a good lad and with injuries at the moment it’s a no brainer for me.

Agree Rebelsry.

Scott played very well in last season's cup win. He is vastly experienced at this level and despite his form latterly[league games] for Slough and his unsuccessful stint at Kingstonian, as a squad player for our team he is more than handy and worth a gamble on.

Bakes or Unders, is George Wells unavailable for Hartley Wintney game only, or is that Dorking as well?

Bummer, about Dan Roberts 3 game suspension, too. Of the games I've seen in pre-season, he's been one of the better performers.

Bakes,I may be being a bit dim on George Wells, as you do say going into the Dorking game on your preview! ha ha ! Just surprised George is not around as with Mark Nisbet out, that is double trouble on the left.

George misses the first two games unfortunately, which we could have probably got round, however having Nis and Josh missing has amplified the loss, hence why we have been playing a few players out of position in the left back position.

We are right up against it in terms of numbers for the first few games, and we have to pray for no further injuries and then we can then hopefully start to welcome a few back.

Yes Dan is a real shame, he has been excellent pre season, and as said to him he was well on course to be starting the season if he had continued in the same vein, however he was sent off for Windsor in their cup final the day we won Berks and Bucks, and will have to serve the ban, hence why he played less at Hayes and Yeading and will not feature as much tomorrow.

As far as I can see Matt Briggs hasn't yet signed for Dorking but with the season starting next week it's probably inevitable.

Mind you he's still got the problem of somewhere around a 4 hour round trip two or three times a week.

I wouldn’t say Oxford City are one of the poorer budget sides in our league. Remember their manager is now full time plus a couple of other staff members. Plus you’d imagine he would have dropped his wage demands a little considering the convenience.

I wouldn't say they have a poor budget but who knows with a week to go they've possibly just spent it.

On the other hand, just like Slough, they could also have some very good players in their midfield and only an exceptional player or a player better than what they've already got would be signed.

Really? I think I would prefer to see us gamble on a young up and coming squad player.

Not sure who you have in mind but with unavailability and injuries it looks like we are struggling for numbers.

Scott Davies, if fit, would be a more than useful addition to help us out in the short term.
