Eastbourne at home - Monday 22nd April 3pm

Well who would have thought it, here we are with two matches left this season and still with an outside chance of making the play-offs.

On Monday, we are at home to an Eastbourne side, who despite not having been in good form recently, stunned everybody on Saturday with a 6-0 win at home to a play-off chasing Dartford.... with Charlie Walker scoring a hat-trick. Which pretty much ensures their survival in the league this season.

Away from home in their last four they have not had a great deal of success with just a single point in a 0-0 draw at Hampton.

In contrast our last four home matches have yielded three home wins and a draw..... and with 20 points from our last eight matches we are currently the top form team in the league, deafeating the likes of Woking, Billericay & Welling along the way.

So what does all that count for? Possibly not a lot.

But if the good people of Slough are going to get behind the club for big games, then this is one they should be turning up in numbers for, it’s the last home match of the season, the sun will be shining, I’m sure the outside bar will be open, and although there are so many permutations of who might be in the play-offs it would make your head hurt thinking about them, there is only one permutation that gives us a chance of being there and that is by winning this match.

Forecast:- A big crowd, 1,000+, thanking the players & management for a fantastic action packed season, and a 2-0 win.

See you all there.... COME ON YOU REBELS!!!

Gutting I can’t make this one (bloody friends of wife’s BBQ...) but will be glued to Twitter willing them onto another victory. Unfortunately it’s not in our hands but we can only do our part and win both and hope we get some luck. Although I think there’s a couple of matches tomorrow that see the teams above us play each other. Not expecting 1,000+ more 800-900.

Seeing it’s the last home match of the season and the end of season awards were given out at the end last time, is this the case again as I don’t recall reading anything about it?

There will be a separate event, look out for details either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Well summed up Curtis  Flukes like the Dartford game rarely travel in pairs and it has to be mentioned that Eastbourne have been poor away all season  Just 4 wins from 20 and averaging less than a goal a game We have reason to be quietly confident/optimistic IMO We can only hope that other results favour us and our final league game really is a much bigger match than seemed likely not that long ago.

Gutted that I am at work today...so missing the game.....

Will be listening on Rebels Radio, if we win then I hope that Concord beat St Albans as they have much better GD than us where as St Albans are on a par....

We need Dartford to respond and beat Ricay too

COYR...….Believe

Oh man how frustrating!!! From high to low in such a short space of time is absolutely galling. Although not mathematically impossible it’s not likely now but I hope we can still get the win as it’s still possible to finish as high as 8th which after such a great end of the season would be well deserved.

Deflated as all the Slough fans will be right now [myself included], didn't our lads do us proud today [and through the whole season]. It was always a dream that we would make the play-offs but our team just got better and better with every game, and so nearly made it reality. That really is a huge positive to take into next season.

Eastbourne certainly belied their league position and looked a better team than some I've seen this season, however Mark McGee had them parking the bus most of the game, by defending with all their players in their own half, and then looking to catch Slough out by breaking quickly.

First half Slough resorted to kicking a lot of long passes to no one in particular,as we were finding Eastbourne hard to breakdown but second half I thought we had the measure of them by up-ing the tempo, getting players to drive the ball towards their penalty area and playing short, snap passes in the final third. Their keeper was their saviour,as he had a blinder. Didn't matter what we tried, it just didn't look like we would score from open play [plenty of effort but no luck], so relief all round when we got that rather fortuitous penalty, which Billy Clifford then cooly put away. Such a shame that we got caught out minutes later by Eastbourne's fast break and our inability to clear the ball but that's football.

On the balance of play I thought Slough were the better side but in this game our luck run out. I didn't think Slough had a man of the match, as they were all men of the match today but would like to mention Francis Amartey and Dan Roberts, as Francis had the bit between his teeth today and seems to be getting better with every game.Thought he had a relatively quiet game at Oxford but today he was back with a vengeance and ran and fought for everything.

Dan Roberts surprised me when he took on an Eastbourne defender with pace, dodged past him and got a terrific shot away, that their keeper saved [yet again]. He certainly doesn't look overawed when he plays for Slough. It's going to be interesting to see what we decide to do with him next season. I would be inclined to bring him back for pre-season and keep him around for the first couple of months of our new campaign but dual reg him with local side one division lower than Slough ie someone like Beaconsfield or Harrow Borough. Having not seen Windsor this season, I've not seen what Dan's main assets are. I thought he was a goal poacher type but it looks like he has more to his game than just that.

We started slowly and looked a bit lethargic with Eastbourne looking quite lively and first to react to a lot of the first and second balls.

We gradually improved as the half wore on and had a couple of good chances with the Eastbourne keeper making some good saves.

Second half we upped the tempo and created quite a few chances, unfortunately Manny missed a real sitter and again their keeper again made some excellent saves to keep the score at 0-0.

Didn't see whether it was a penalty of not but having taken the lead in something like the 93rd minute it was particularly galling to then concede what looked a really soft equalizer.

Considering the conditions another great effort from the boy's.

My MOTM was Matt Lench.

The handball was right in front of me but the referee was on the blindside and there were several bodies betweeen him and the player concerned. Once the assistant referee called him across there could only be one outcome.

Before the weekend fixtures, Mark McGhee's record at Eastbourne Borough was
Home 0-2-2 F2 A6 and Away 0-1-3 F2 A7. Not a record that shows the good work that he has obviously been doing at the club.

Then the 6-0 drubbing of Dartford  followed by what was IMO an excellent performance yesterday at Arbour Park. He will be handing over a squad in very good shape to the new manager for next season. And great to see Mark, as an ex Barnet and Millwall manager, looking so well at 61 and enjoying his football.

IMO yesterday was an outstanding match of National League South football.

Personally didn't think it was that great a game with the heat making it fairly slow paced for a good portion of the game.

I thought it was a good tussle, with a lot riding on it for both sides.Seen an awful lot more games that were worse than this one. Harder for fans of both clubs to enjoy, given the nature of the game but I wouldn't have said it was dull. Far from it.

Not dull but not one of the best.

As you say we've seen worse.

Eastbourne's late strike was the goal(and point) that guaranteed them National South football next season  I'm sure they think it was a brilliant game!
