Oxford City away

I was so frustrated by those 2 results today. Concord have just had a mammoth midweek trip to Truro and we’re away to 2nd places Woking who could have sealed runners up place with a win. Was expecting a draw or defeat for Concord. St Albans go 1 down and score the winner in the 98 minute, jammy f@#%ers... means we’re now 6 points of 7th meaning we obviously have to win the next 2 at least as a minimum.

It certainly does Curtis

Our final games are against teams that have had poor seasons the table doesn't lie!  but both are facing relegation and will really be fighting for survival We must just keep the self belief we have developed recently and play at our best and Six points is likely IMO Its also possible that Truro will have been relegated before our final game not sure if that's a good thing or not regarding their performance

Top of the form table with a Championship winning side record. Eastbourne are now 4 points above safety so they won’t be as urgent for a win had they not thrashed Dartford today (why can’t these teams play like this every game? Can see why managers get so frustrated!). Plus hopefully they’ll be over confident and think they’re better than they are... hopefully Truro will be relegated by next Saturday making it a little easier if we’re still in the race. Wasn’t planning to go to Truro but if we have a chance I may well change my mind!

Our travelling support this season has been brilliant  This was Oxfords second highest league gate all season ( only Dulwich did slightly better) We need 2 huge gates to raise the lads in the final push I can't make Monday but will be at Truro!

We played well in the first half and took a deserved lead from a good move and a clinical strike from Wazza.

We had a couple more chances to increase our lead and then proceeded to give away a penalty from what looked like a rash challenge from behind.

With the game locked at 1-1 with about 30 minutes to go and a draw being of no use to us we again brought on both Manny and Dan Roberts to bolster our attack which sparked the game into life and proved to be the turning point in the game.

We started to create more chances but still couldn't quite find the finishing touch until a great unstoppable strike from Wellsy arrowed into the top corner followed by a fine individual goal from Francis Amartey gave us the 3 crucial points required.

MOTM for me was Matt Lench who had another superb game.

Slough were all over Oxford in the first half, bet Bakes and Unders were sick to go in at half time at 1-1, as Oxford had largely untroubled us, and we then gifted them their penalty !

Second half was a different story as Oxford got more into the game and Slough had plenty of endeavour in testing hot conditions but were struggling to create clear cut chances. Matt Lench seemed to be at the forefront of our best moves but like the Welling game it was our managers substitutions that made the difference.Against Welling I thought the players they took off and who they brought on was spot on but I  have to say I was concerned when they took the brave decision to take Lee Togwell and Billy Clifford off, especially as I didn't think Sam Togwell was having one of his best games, so for me it appeared safer to replace just one of them but to Bakes and Unders credit they got it right again, as once the new players had settled into their new shape, Slough started to get some joy going forward.

We're so fortunate to have Manny Williams, as he is such an asset and invariably makes something happen when he comes on. He plays such clever passes and belies his years with his ball control and his running for forward balls.Again I thought he was superb, when he came on to the field and he made the difference to get the team the win IMO, not in getting the goals that won us the game but his overall contribution in getting amongst the action at every given moment.

George Wells wonder strike was a fitting way to grab the lead and Francis Amartey's goal was the icing on the cake to finish off Oxford but things may have had a different outcome had it not been for Jack Turner, who produced another worldie to keep Oxford out. It was a stunning save and kept Slough's hopes alive.

Man of the match for me was Matt Lench, who worked his socks off and was at the heart of most of our best play for the first 75 minutes. I also thought Sean Fraser, Simon Dunn and Warren Harris had decent run outs today. With the heat the way it  was, it certainly wasn't the day that players could rest easy and I thought these three put in a lot of running, which often goes unnoticed, when a team is trying to get the upper hand up front.

I thought Oxford weren't a bad footballing side but they didn't exactly burst a gut to beat Slough, as for them they had little to play for. Strange then, that they had a better second half than what they had offered in the first half. Until we scored our second goal, they had made it a hard contest and on another day, could have snatched the win. Thankfully, justice was done and the better side won.

Up next Eastbourne.......

Just on Lee Togwell, people have to remember he has a genetic condition whereby when it is really hot he blisters really bad, and yesterday he was struggling at half time with his feet, and we knew if we had any hope of him playing Monday he would need to come off early yesterday.

The Jack Turner save looked good when seen live but the highlights shows it to be an absolute blinding save and for me is up there with his worldie save at Chelmsford.

Watching Wellsy's goal again, amazed to see how little back lift he gets to strike the ball, absolute belter!!!!

The short highlights
