Hungerford Away 6th April

I have really enjoyed this season and I find myself once again looking forward to an away trip, and hoping that we can pick up a win on the road and keep our season alive..... anything less than a win though and I will have to finally concede our season is over.

I would like to think we could emulate our 2-1 win at Hungerford earlier this season in the County Cup, but with Hungerford in good form, only having lost one of their last 4 home matches and fighting relegation, and us probably being content to extend our unbeaten run to six league matches (the best we would have achieved this season), if I were to have a bet it would be on the draw.

Forecast: 1-1

Both teams are looking for a sixth unbeaten match  so in some ways both form teams  Hungerford  will be keen to acquire more points in their struggle to avoid relegation and we will be keen to finish our first season as high as we can  I'm expecting a robust close encounter  with any of three possible outcomes equally likely

Very good first half, 2-0 up and looking like we would win by 3 or 4.

We should have had a penalty, and had other good opportunities to score a third early in the second half.... but then conceded, and had Guy Hollis sent off when getting a second yellow (about 5 minutes after getting a very soft first yellow), and were then under pressure and probably a little fortunate to hold on for the 2-1 win.

For me today was all about getting a win, and although the last 15 minutes were a very uncomfortable watch we achieved it and our season rolls on.... at home to Welling next, and hopefully a very big crowd getting behind the team.

Didn’t go but pleased naturally to hear we’ve continued our unbeaten run. With the 4 remaining games I’m very confident we can make it 10 games unbeaten which would be a cracking end to the season. With a crowd of just over 400 there must have been at least 150 from Slough?

I would say more than that Glen

Good team performance.

Nice early goal and a bit fortunate to get an own goal but on play I'd say 2-0 at half time was a fair score.

I thought we conceded another very soft goal but again we still created the chances to put the game to bed.

We we were looking relatively comfortable but with Guy's unnecessary sending off it became a bit nervy.

Not an easy game but In the end we got a thoroughly deserved 3 points.

Good performances all round but my MOTM goes to Matt Lench who for me was our stand out player.

Good win by the sounds of it. Was there any Hungerford players that stood out for you, RR?

Competitive performances from some of their players but nothing that stood out that would take us to the next level.

Always harder to spot players in a team battling relegation but on the other hand, you can also see the merits of players willing to battle to get the points. Against them at home I thought they had two players that looked very useful, and I would have liked to have seen them yesterday but my hernia was playing up, so that put paid to that. Hope to see you at the Welling game.

Good win on a very difficult pitch to play on. Francis is settling down and looks a good find. Lot of running and some unselfish distribution. Would have liked to have seen Dan Roberts get a bit more game time but obviously going down to 10 men made that difficult. Matty Lench as always covered a lot of ground and run himself to a standstill.

It would be great if Hungerford won their last remaining games and managed to avoid relegation.

Because Hungerford is relatively close and the fact that they are a small club fighting against the odds I too hope they don't get relegated.

If they manage to survive the drop their future at National South level will depend on them getting a new Chairman who has money to spend otherwise they will only be delaying the inevitable.

Let’s look at finances... let’s say an average of £150 per person squad and management based on 20 that’s £3,000 a week alone without all the other overheads. Take a true average home crowd of 200 with an average spend of £10 and you can see there’s a £1,000 deficit to find already. Over a season that could reach £40-£50,000.

your players money £150 each of the squad if they can be non contract then probably only get paid if playing.

Sure if you’re not in the matchday squad of 16 I wouldn’t expect anyone outside of this to get paid unless they were on contract. That’s why I said 20 so that includes the 16 plus 4 management. Just shows how important an FA Cup or Trophy run is.
