Player of the season

Was talking to a fellow Slough supporter couple of weeks ago, about who we thought had been our player of the season. The longer we talked, the harder it got to name just one. This season is going to be a close call, in who gets the honour. Off the top of my head I've got 6 in the running !

Have to say 3spirit I'm surprised that you have 6 players in the running for POTS.

IMO there are two, possibly three players in the running.

I could easily pick out at least six or more players who have all had very good seasons but only really two, possibly three, who IMO week in week out perform to at least an 8/10.

I too would find it difficult to pick just one who stood out but for me there’s 3 in contention (Turner, Sam and Lee Togwell). Had Lench been here at the start and put in the same performances as he has done since he’s been back then he’d be in that list too. I’d put him along with Jackman and Warren Harris in the next block.

I've got half a dozen in mind but Jack Turner stands out  alone for me The other five have only been brilliant!

You watch more games than me, RR, so you are in a better position to judge. I think most improved player is easy as that is Josh Jackman but I wouldn't say he's out the running for player of the season. My other 5 were Jack, Lee, Waz, Sam and Nis. On the others, I agree with GlenSTFC that Matt Lench cannot be included as he hasn't been here long enough,even though he has been good since he came back. Dobbo was good but left. Floody was injured a lot and his form was patchy.

I voted for George Wells last season but his form has been inconsistent this season but he's still a definite starter for me in our first eleven. Guy Hollis is one of my favourite players and he never lets the team down but with Sam's arrival, and Guy's job, he's been used sparingly. Manny, Sean, Simon and Ben haven't been in the team regularly enough to be considered for it IMO.

TBH at this moment in time I'm finding it difficult to choose between the players that I think should be POTS because I think they are all deserving of it.

Still, we've got few more games left to make a decision.

I would personally narrow it down to Jack Turner, Mark Nisbitt and Lee Togwell. I can however see arguments for Josh Jackman, Sam Togwell and Warren Harris.

Will be interesting to see how it plays itself out in the end of season voting.

 I would go for Jack Turner, followed closely in 2/3 by Sam/Lee Togwell. 

For me Nisbet should also be in the mix. He has been phenomenal this season and has improved from recent seasons even though he is already a well established player.  He puts in great performances week in and week out, leads the team well and for me his contribution goes under the radar - he also had a phenomenal block yesterday against Woking.

I'd like to think it will be done properly this year with a presentation evening.

Might only be March Curtis but, in all likelihood, we only have 7/8 games left so realistically most people will have formed a strong opinion from the first 47 games that won’t be swayed by the remaining few.

Agree with Radders that by now most people will have formed strong opinions on who their POTS will be.

Then again there will be supporters who can't decide from 2 or 3 players and the remaining games could sway them one way or the other.

Completely agree, with around 85% of the season passed that’s enough time to start suggesting players. Unless say Dan or Francis play and score hat tricks in every remaining game! I think we can agree that there are no players who haven’t played well this season especially taking into account the step up in quality. Feeling really positive about next season and if we can sign the correct players there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be challenging the play offs.

Getting into the play-offs next season will obviously depend on player retention and player recruitment.

Not easy but I think we can all be confident that our managers will get this right with their minimum target being to reach the play-offs.

It may actually be harder keeping some of our players than bringing new ones in. Let’s hope any of our players who are ‘courted’ love the club enough and see the potential to stay! Should be an interesting pre-season in any case plus hopefully a high profile friendly.
