Chris Flood

Reading Rebel

Not really a surprise as the rumour mill has been rife that something wasn't quite right.

Floody has been an integral part of our recent successes and at his best is a quality striker.

Good luck for your last game in a rebels shirt tomorrow Floody and good luck for the future.

Will be no different to every summer to be honest, as sometimes even keeping your players that you want is hard work... it is not just a given that players will stay.

We are quite comfortable with where we are currently and where we hope/expect to be come the start of next season ?

I never heard any rumours but I'm gutted he is leaving. I rate him highly and consider him the best striker we have, so it's a bit of a kick in the nuts to me. His goal tally hasn't been as good this season but I think his overall game is a huge contribution to the team so he is going to be a big miss for us. That said, it is totally reasonable for Chris to want to find a club nearer to where he lives, given his new circumstances, as long as he does. Don't want to see him turning up in a Wealdstone or Hampton shirt [or any other club in this division nearby] next season or this !

Slough's season is ending in a whimper by the looks of it. However, might be worth saving a few bob now, to save up some dosh for an exciting pre-season to boost our squad/striker options for next season.

We've got eight games to eke out two wins and maybe one or two draws. Going to be a challenge to do but think we should have enough to be able to do it but certainly doesn't look a forgone conclusion and it's a big ask for two young rookie strikers and one golden oldie. Least our players in midfield have goals in them, as looks like we will need them.

Floody's header in the FA Cup 3rd. Qualifying Round against Poole Town is his goal that I will always remember.

How does anyone cope with all that driving?

Winchester City are two points outside the Southern League Division One South
play-offs with two games in hand. He might not have to travel far!

Am also thinking what clubs are near him that would suit? I guess if Winchester got promoted that’ll be ideal at just one level lower although could they afford his wages although naturally he’d have to accept less in any case. Havant and Eastleigh I doubt would be interested. Looks like he’ll certainly be playing a few levels lower that’s if he does carry on playing?

What about Salisbury? Up and coming team. Not that far for him and they are supposed to pay good dosh.

Chris has been great for the progress and development of the Club and his 40+ goals in just over 100 appearances has been excellent.

He does appear to have had a difficult time at this level this season though, and his 6 goals in 27 league appearances isn’t a return that frightens defenders.

I wish him all the best for the future, I don’t think we will see him competing against us next season, but I am certain he will be in big demand from clubs a level or two lower.

And thanks for the two goals you scored in the match I sponsored this season... it was a great start to a fantastic day!

Yeah forgot about them, yes they certainly would fit the bill. Depends if they get promoted or not I guess.

Not if he joins this season, as they are in the play offs and would be a great signing for them to help push them over the line, and if they don't make it, they still have a great signing for next season.

Bit like when Scott Davies came to Slough for our play off challenge. Different position but no less important. Dorking have done it with Elliott Buchanan.

Absolutely gutted by this, mainly on a personal level as my oldest has shown very little interest in football apart from with Floody, he plays and has to always where Floody boots and when people ask him who he supports he says "Floody", not STFC :(.......

I can see him ending up back at Basingstoke personally, he was a part of their side that made the playoffs in National South i believe....he also scored a hat trick against us in FA Cup.......

I disagree,Curtis. I think Chris Flood is Conference South class. His goal ratio hasn't been great this season but he has had injuries, and as he travels quite a way to our club I think his appearances, though sporadic in consistency terms, have in the whole been good for Slough. His all round game is great for our team, and so I believe he is one of our best players, not one of our worst.

Probably Finishing 12th in first season in national south and reaching 2nd round of FA cup (again) should negate any thoughts of the phrase with ‘season ending in whimper’ in it in my opinion.???

Confident we’ll finish at least mid table, no shame in that in my eyes, I like to be in the ‘half glass full’ camp I’m afraid ? surely we’d have all took a mid table finish at the start... positivity breeds success in my eyes. COYR

It's good to be positive and of course there is no shame in being confident that we will finish mid table.

With our striker situation as it currently is I think a half way finish will make it a very good first season for us at this level.

I didn't mean it like you are saying. I've said repeatedly that we've had a great season.
