New Striker?

Elliot Buchanan was missing from the Kingstonian line up yesterday, and listening to a Dean Brennan interview about his new job at Kingstonian, sounds like players will be coming in and going. Given our strikers form and injuries, I think we're mad not to enquire about him. Also, as we know, he can do a job on the left wing,as that is where Steve Bateman put him, a lot of the time, when he was with us !  Mad I know but he did.

By the way he's the top goalscorer there with 15 goals.

Buchanan signing for someone else, not at liberty to say who, but it is not us.

Thanks for the heads up. To be honest I was going to delete my post, as I thought better of making such suggestions, especially when I know you've got your ear to the ground, and know of far more players than me. Besides that I haven't seen Elliott play for a couple of seasons, and also we may be able to come by someone at our level or higher.  The reason I mentioned Elliott was because I thought he might be worth a gamble on, given his experience and goal scoring record.

Our current predicament with strikers is a hard one to call, as it has got to be better to wait for pre-season to get someone/s in but we still have eleven games to play and need a few more points to be safely over the line. Chris Flood injury didn't look good and Ben Harris has had his fair share of injuries throughout, so that only leaves the ageing marvel that is Manny Williams, the young unproven Tommy Wood [ a month's loan]and Dan Roberts who has got to step up three levels and hasn't played any minutes for the club yet, and now we have the added handicap of not having Dobbo's goals.

I thought we might take a chance on a striker like when we brought Liam Enver Marum in towards the end of a season. That way you get to see if a player fits in, and is up to the task, hence why I suggested Elliott Buchanan.

Dorking just like Kingstonian are throwing some serious money around. I guess Dorking’s manager/owner has some wealth as although they have a new ground their gates certainly won’t be supporting the wage bill! Happy to see them come into our league though as Dorking isn’t far and it’s a decent little town.

That’s what I meant... an average of 500 isn’t going to support their wage bill which is why their manager/owner must be propping the club up by some way. Being 9 points clear they should be on course to join us next season. I wonder if they’ll continue spending to be one of the favourites next season?

But reading what’s already been said about ‘signing’ Dan is that he’ll spend the rest of the season with Windsor so we won’t see him play for us until pre-season when he’ll have the chance to shine and I guess our managers will then decide to sign him permanently or not?

I thought the situation was if we wanted to play him we could, obviously in agreement with the Windsor manager.

Just to briefly update on a few things...

Floody injury is not too serious. Has a chance to be involved on Saturday but we’ll have to assess him tomorrow at training.

Ben not looking good and may be out for a while. Will know more in coming weeks and will update when we are more certain.

Clearly some different reports/opinions regarding the agreement on Dan Roberts. We will clarify our position later in the week when we provide a squad update ahead of the Bath game.

Tommy Wood has signed a new contract at Wimbledon.

see Glynn Hodges comments:-

Tommy is currently on loan with National League South side Slough Town, but Glyn Hodges believes he can be a part of the club’s future.

“Every day here is an opportunity for him to improve and see where it takes him. He’s just got to go out and score goals, to go and be a success somewhere. Tommy is one for the future, but if he can put a run of games together of important performances then we could easily call him back and get him in the team.

“At the moment, he’s at Slough and it’s a new environment for him with new team-mates. We will give him a few games to settle in, but then he’s got to be smashing goals in. That’s the name of the game and if he’s scoring goals at that level, then that gives him a chance to get to the next level and the next level after that. Then you throw him in and anything can happen. He’s a centre forward who will hopefully be a big part of it in the future.”

As far as I'm aware Tommy's loan period finishes after the Hemel game.

So unless the loan period is extended he only has two games left with us to be 'smashing those goals in'.

I submitted my weekly score forecast to the Slough Observer last evening after I saw the Woking result.
It wasn't that I hadn't read the script.
But how about the bookies? They are offering from 4:1 to 5:1 for a Rebels win.

Thanks for your kind comments on Dorking Town, Glen.

My age and health make travelling down to Meadowbank awkward.

Marc White certainly does have a large sponsorship portfolio.  I haven't seen him this season to have chat, unfortunately.
