COUNTY CUP

Longshot

Sounds like they’re a right nasty bunch of... research shows they have one of the worst displinary records around, so maybe we shouldn’t be surprised at all by the antics of their team and management... well let’s hope they just miss out on promotion by say a dodgy offside decision? At least they’ll have their big cup final for their 100 fans to get excited about!

Do they have a history of final whistle antics?

I think I heard someone mention at half-time there was an altercation after their match against Chesham.

I must have misheard.... appears it was their Cheshunt game on 26th February.

Disappointed, but not ever so, I'd rather be in National South than winning the Bed & Breakfast Cup. Thought the lack of an offside decision for the goal was immediately preceded by a blatant foul, so absolutely no credit to the officials, they also missed giving us a sure fire penalty.

I've rarely seen such a one sided game, Marlow possessed zero creativity, but did demonstrate why they've only conceded 8 league goals at home all season. This game reminded me of visits to AFC Hayes, a club that regularly demonstrated no class either on or off the pitch.

The final should be a well attended affair, presumably the 100 or so Marlow supporters will travel to the game.

On to Saturday when we'll have the pick of an almost full squad, unlike last night.

The Marlow manager played more than 60 games for the Rebels was MOM several times and was presented with an award by Eddie Denton for his good attitude! What on earth went wrong! Their keeper who had an excellent game is also an ex Rebel. playing a number of games when James Warrington was either injured or on a course can't remember which

That’s what I don’t get... ‘Barts’ was an ex player for us and even stated we were his second team! Don’t know the guy but he appeared a decent guy from what I heard and read so I’m very surprised he acted and allowed his team to behave as they did. Never mind it’s hardly a big loss and it obviously means a lot more to them than us.

Don't think you have to go back that far In the 77th minute of their league game at Hertford last Saturday  3 Marlow players were yellow carded and 1 red carded !

I was there when Mark Bartley scored his only Slough goal at Staines! The winner that evening was a superb overhead kick from Terry Davies.

My main memory of Simon Grant was when he played against us for AFC Hayes at Holloways Park. They equalised very, very late with a dodgy penalty and then Grant started to walk off the pitch thinking the game was over, but Paul Coyne went for goal from the halfway line and narrowly missed. That would have seen some very different scenes at the end!

Mark Bartley has played and been involved in football around the Reading area for as long as I can remember.

He might come across as all friendly and chummy but behind the mask there is a psychopath in waiting.

I too remember that night at Staines.......If I remember we had a resurgence in form beating Billericay the following Saturday.....We then proceeded to lose at least 5-0 every week

I think that was the season we went down 9-0 at Wimbledon?

I thought Simon Grant did a terrific job for Slough when he came on loan to us. Surprised he's stayed at Marlow for so long. He's a good shot stopper and has plenty of confidence to challenge in the air for the ball.

Mark Bartley was very young when at Slough and was more of a squad player than a regular first teamer. He was a good trier but never thought of as one of our better players. When he first went as manager of Marlow, he appeared down to earth and humble and I thought he was  matey with Bakes and Unders ,as I'm sure we played a friendly against them around that time but as we fans know, being involved with a football team, seems to turn some mild managers into nut jobs. Marlow are forever letting their better players leave but Bartley, has built a resilient bunch that stick together but are workmen like, more than anything else. The division they are in can't be that good if they are near the top.

Wasn't at the game but it's goals that win games and by not scoring you won't beat anyone but who really cares about the b+b cup?

Answer: ..............The winners in the final !

I hardly think Slough are missing out. The Woking away win was our cup final this season.

Watching this game brought back memories of a league away game  way back in 1978 v Boreham Wood we outplayed the Wood for ninety minutes made enough chances to have won 2 games with ease  but late on John Beyer scored an own goal and we lost 1 nil.

As they used to say we would never of scored in a month of sundays just how some games go I remember me and dad could not believe we lost.
