Curtis
I noticed on the Club web-site that we intend setting up a Women’s team for the 2019/2020 season:- http://www.sloughtownfc.net/article/1758/Slough-Town-to-start-Ladies-team-for-2019/20-season Does anyone know if there has been significant interest in this and whether there is likely to be a reasonable turnout for the first training session tomorrow (and if this is still going ahead with the current weather). I would also be interested to know how far our intention has developed..... have we applied to join a league, what is the deadline for joining a league, has a coach or manager been appointed (or who will be running the training sessions), will their matches be played at Arbour Park, and will we be looking for donors or sponsors to fund kit, travel etc (and would the Slough Supporters Trust be considering funding to some extent). I was reading an article on the BBC this morning stating that Lewes Women are playing at the second level in Women’s football and are operating on the same budget as their Men’s team with Fran Alonso as their manager (previously an assistant to both Pochettino & Koeman):- https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47092511
Rebel Kay
We will go ahead tomorrow as planned. We will see what response we get over the next few weeks before finalising the plans but we have been working quietly on this for sometime. we would hope to join a league for next season and sponsors etc will be sought. I am sure we will be able to answer the rest of your questions in the coming weeks. Am really excited to finally get the ball roiling on this having set up two girls teams already this season, this is the natural next step. Irishadrian
Sounds like a great idea but I think its crucial that we can get membership of some existing league of a like standard. Billericay ladies for example have just beaten Rayleigh ladies 31- O which Ricays twitter described as pointless to play in or watch
HEAVY TRUCKER
i seem to remember in seasons many moons ago that we used to have a very useful womans team i think originally based at wexham road and then due to well reported circumstances moved to beaconsfield ami right in this or has my memory been fogged a bit by time. Irishadrian
I can remember Slough ladies fc formed early nineties They had a first team that played at Beaconsfield and a reserve team that played at the Polish Club both played in leagues with reasonable success Haven't heard of them for years
Alan Greenaway
Can only be good for the club if we are able to get this well supported. There is an increasing following now for Ladies teams of a reasonable level. Pleased the club is widening its reach into the community.
Curtis
Sounds like the first training session proved to be very promising:- ‘It was a fantastic turnout, with great enthusiasm and quality on display.’
