Programme article/best xi

In the Slough programme for the Chippenham match, there was an article called the' big interview' written by the inimitable Brighton Rebel aka Warren asking questions of Neil, Jon, Trent and Alex. And a thoroughly good read it was,too !

There was one question put to Neil and John about their best 11 players they have managed. They decided that our current squad shouldn't be included, so I thought it was a good idea to put a different slant on it for Slough supporters who use the forum to have a go of picking a Bakes and Unders best/favourite 16 ie first 11 and formation, and 5 subs. Must have played for Slough when Bakes and Unders have been at the club but no current squad players can be included.

I'll start the ball rolling..............My team would be a 3-5-2 of

                                                                  Mark Scott [gk]

                         Justin Clayton[ch] Adam Foulser[ sweeper/ch]  Dave Woozley[capt/ch]

                                                          Ben Edwards [holding midfield]

                                                Jamie McClurg[cm]    Nathan Webb[cm]

Jake Parsons [right wing/utility attacker]                                              James Dobson[left wing/utility attacker]

                                                         Charlie Strutton[cf]           Charlie Mpi [cf]

Subs: George Short, Chris Henry,Ryan Hope, Ed Smith, Johnny Dyer.

How's that for an attacking team !

Incidentally Bakes and Unders xi were 4-4-2 of [gk]Mark Scott.  Defence: Stuart Harte Adam Foulser[capt] Dave Woozley Paul Stonehouse

Midfield: George Short Jamie McClurg Ben Edwards Darren Wheeler

Forwards: Matty Stevens  Scott Harris.

We actually picked the team before Dobbo left so he would have to now sneak in to our side ahead of Wheeler on the left wing!

Jon, I take it Stuart Harte played for you at Godalming?

I would have liked to have included Steve Duff on my subs bench,as I thought he looked a good strong left winger who seemed a sound character to have in the team. Darren Wheeler very good technically but seemed to have an attitude problem. Mind you, when I was young, people would have said I had an attitude problem ! All part of growing up I suppose.

Yes he played with Bakes and I at Farnborough and was one of our first signings at Godalming. Great lad and a very good attacking right back.

I’ve been trying to do it but would have no one on the right cos it’s only Sean, Josh and warren to choose from!!! ???

You could always play another defender or midfielder there, who you think could do it ie Nathan Webb could play a multitude of positions, Ben Edwards filled in full back roles in different games.

It's like Adam Foulser, had he been at our club in his prime, I would have liked to have seen him in centre midfield, as I thought he was a class act and no ordinary player, such a shame that his playing days was cut short by injury.

I've thought of another right back who had a few games for Slough under Bakes and Unders. Looked a fair player. That of Ryan Case.

I suppose you could also have Nathan Smart, as he is more with Hartley Wintney now, and is likely being kept on registration in case we have any bad injuries and need emergency cover.

Funny enough I always think as a right full back, it is a great position for a young player to learn his trade, and not necessarily do you have to be a defender to play there, as the position demands tenacity, combativeness, speed, character, awareness, getting an opposition player to move where you want him to go and, of course, the art of tackling. At left full back it isn't as easy to do with a youngster, as left footed players are in demand in any team and a specialist left back is always a must have for any team wanting success.

Must have had a premonition, as I have just read the Oxford City forum and read Ryan Case has signed for them !   Ooh Werr, spooky !

Ha ha ha. Nice one Windsor Rebel. Like your style. That's tickled me. ?

Actually I was just amazed, as I didn't have a clue where Ryan Case was playing and then to read OCFC forum and to find he's just signed there, did seem uncanny.

Must say I thought a few more fans would have had a go at naming their best/favourite xi but there's no accounting for taste.

WR, can't I tempt you?

There's a few players I'd forgotten about and one of them has been around my house ! ha ha!

From Gary's list, there's four players who when in their prime would have to be included somewhere in my squad, that would be Alan Inns, Brad Watkins, Adrian Sear and Leigh Rumbold.

They haven’t necessarily played but were named in squads. Anton Murray and Adam Casey were unused subs in this match: http://www.sloughtownfc.net/reports/4957/
