Sloughflyer, I agree with a lot that you have said here but what I don't agree with you on, is there are no strikers out there that would enhance Slough. I think that statement is over inflating how good our front line is.

On a previous thread, I mentioned Jon Mills as a possibility. Now as a player, while I haven't seen him numerous times, I have seen him a few times, and while I have never been bowled over by his overall game you have to recognise that he is strong, robust, and by finding space gets shots in and seems to know with consumate ease, how to put the ball in the net, and that is one of the elements that seems hard to come by for our team currently. Finding a regular 20 goal a season striker is hard but not impossible. Slough are still a big draw in non league circles and we should be able to attract one, regardless of this contract hazard.

We also need another forward, who can head a ball and isn't a shrinking violet and is willing to ruffle up the feathers of a few opposition centre halves but not in a fouling sort of way. As everyone knows on here, I would prefer a 6ft plus, number ten. He doesn't have to be the best.He just needs to be efficient at what he does. For the amount of high crosses that Bakes and Unders use in every game, it is frankly flabbergasting that we don't go and get one. In this league, we need one. Not for every game but certainly for quite a few. I see Chris Flood as a player that can play as a 9 or 10 and with two other new strikers, we would improve our strike force/goal ratio no end.

I rate Chris Flood highly and consider him to be our number one striker and would want him to be at club next season. Manny Williams to me is worth his salt in our squad. To me he's a super sub and on occasion, the right choice for certain games but long term, time is against him. I don't class him as a forward. Ben Harris I find infuriating, as he has ability but wastes it and is so sporadic in his performances to the team, that it makes him more of a liability on the pitch, than him being this great asset. I prefer him as a sub, than in the first eleven but when he does start matches, he always starts with aplomb but after a while gets embroiled in all sorts of crap ie fouling players, dissent and feigning injury, so ends up going off the boil and delivering little. Players like him are all right short term but won't win you anything.

Thats going to boost Ben Harris' confidence then.

Well, that's up to Ben Harris. From my angle it's nothing personal, it's just how I view his efforts on the pitch. I've actually said, in previous posts, that he is an proficient footballer, so I'm hardly slagging him totally off.

All fans have their favourites. Windsor Rebel, I remember you being a big fan of Steve Daly, while I thought he was over-rated. Yet I could see that he had some very good attributes ie he was fiercely loyal to our club, always performed well in the bigger games and was well thought of by the players around him.

Ben Harris also has attributes of his own and to our team, and I can see why some fans, and our managers like him but for me he just isn't my type of player. I actually thought he was a good signing for us at the time , and as a squad player I can readily see the benefits he brings to our team. That's why I said short term, he can do us a job. For me, though, he also brings negatives in the way he goes about his efforts on the pitch, and so I don't fall for all the sugar coating/plaudits he gets. That's my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. My opinion counts for nothing, I'm not picking the players or the team.......

Some of that is stuff you might moan about in the bar after a loss..... but is it really appropriate to post it on here?

Of course it is, Curtis. It's a Slough fans football forum to talk to about all football related matters pertaining to Slough Town FC and non league football in general.

I have to post something on here so I will post total rubbish, regardless of its quality or relevance.........

Rebel 1965, you're a hypocrite.

Before you were writing the match reports for the club, you were regularly posting things about the club and players. In fact, you've been a forumite longer than I have. Seems like you've suddenly got a short memory.

As for quality, that's a matter of opinion, and on relevance it is totally relevant, as on Bakes interview after the Truro match, he was lamenting our lack of goals. Hence why the forum, before his interview and after his interview, has been chatting about our forward play.

Do fans read other club [fan] forums?

Slough fans forum is mild compared to many others, as examples, fans should take a look at Wealdstone, Woking, Farnborough, Enfield, Hitchin and say, Bath City forums to name a few, to see the in depth views/opinions, that go on in them.

Talking of rating forwards, on the Wealdstone forum, all their forwards, and pretty much most of their team[and their manager], are getting slagged off currently. Yet they are sitting in 11th place and haven't even reached Christmas.

It all comes down to expectations.

Here at Slough, it's our first season in the Conference South and so our ambitions aren't as lofty as Wealdstone's, so we can afford time to get our team right. Our squad has held it's own in this league and done remarkably well so far but with Matt Steven's departure, and possibly one or two beginning to look limited, I don't think it would be a bad move to bring in a couple of new faces, just to freshen up some of our offensive play, as that is currently an area we can improve on. Maybe a Wealdstone forward on loan is possibility?

Looks like you are going to have to apologise 3spirit as I have NEVER written a match report for the club!

As a moderator please get your facts right!

You are a hypocrite, so that is a fact !

I will apologise about the match reports though, as I may have mixed you up with your son.

However, I have the right to respond to posts, just like you have. Being a moderator has got nothing to do with it. I became a moderator because no one wanted to do it at the time. As a moderator, I've never been unfair to anyone yet.

As a supporter of Slough Town FC, I just give my honest opinion. What's wrong with that?  It may not please everyone all the time but I've not joined a football forum, to please everyone all the time. I like to talk about team matters and non league things in general. I'm not on here to antagonise other forum users. Unlike someone I could mention.

That is weakest apology I have ever seen.

If that is your stance this will be the last time I ever use this forum.

Hang your head in shame 3spirit.

I won't be hanging my head in shame,as I've done nothing wrong.

That is your choice if you don't want to use the forum.
