Matt Stevens recalled by Peterborough

I think you’ll find any decent striker in our league will be on contract and although we have the FA Cup windfall I think it’s highly unlikely we’d pay a fee. So it’s more likely we’ll bring in another loaner from higher up or a proven goal scorer from a league below.

We still have three quality strikers who played a huge part in getting us into this league, let’s not forget that.

Ben Harris has only completed 90 minutes once this season. (Vs Sholing in the replay. However worth noting he didn’t play the extra time)

Flood has only completed 90 minutes 7 times this season. (And only twice in the last 13 matches)

Manny Williams has only completed 90 minutes twice this season. (Did also complete 89 mins vs Gloucester early in the season)

(26 matches played so far this season)

Once they all start getting full games again the goals will start flowing.

Manny Williams was magic when he came on against Gillingham. IMO Chris Flood has not looked sharp for a few months but I feel that he can still be sharpened up again; Togs creates so many chances but doesn't put many of them away.

I wonder if Immanuelson Duku is in the Bakes/Unders radar. He gets about in
National League matches but doesn't show quality with the ball hence he is not getting full match time during his loan spell  from Cheltenham Town to Barnet which ends on 31st. December. Until then Barnet have Bath City and Dover Athletic at home and Ebbsfleet United, Boreham Wood and Dagenham & Redbridge away. If he hasn't made the full match grade at National League level by then, a loan for the rest of the season to an ambitious club at one level lower might be the answer for the former Hayes & Yeading United star.

To me, Jafooly, your observations about our strikers are hardly a ringing endorsement of them ! ha ha !

Shredding Green, makes a good point about Immanuelson Duku. He would be worth loaning if we could get him. Not sure he's our managers type of player, though.

Another player that comes readily to mind is Jon Mills. He is currently on loan at Banbury from Bath City. He has suffered a goal drought at both clubs so far, since leaving Hereford but I don't see that as him being a no-go for us. At some point he will break that spell and to me he would be worth taking a chance on [for loan or longer], even if it doesn't prove to be a long term solution. He might be relatively cheap now, too, given his non scoring at the moment. There's no doubting that he knows how to put the ball in the net,as he's proved countless times over previous seasons.

We go on about Matt Stevens as though he is the best striker we  have ever had but while his record of 1 goal in every 2 games on paper looks good, as Epic Rebel points out his goals weren't evenly distributed like that. You have to take into account he missed a lot of chances, too, and of late, his goals had dried up. So I'm not as downbeat, as some are about losing him.

You have to remember there’s a massive gap in quality from our level to League (aside from one off cup ties!). So you can’t expect Matty to go straight into starting 11. No doubt he’ll be given some substitute appearances and maybe in the cups may get more and then he’ll obviously be assessed on that to see how he progresses.

Peterborough sacked their Manager, Steve Evans, yesterday after a 0-0 home draw with 4th placed Charlton (Peterborough currently in 6th place in the play-offs but not in great form with 7 points from last 6 matches).

Matty Stevens still in the squad but sitting on the bench.

I don’t know whether Steve Evans was personally responsible for Matty’s early loan recall or refusing a new loan deal..... but his sacking might be an interesting development.

Peterborough are going through a rough patch, got trounced last week and have now sacked their manager.

Matty Stevens was loaned out to get experience and after being recalled following his excellent performance against Gillingham now finds himself almost permanently on the bench.

Lets hope their new manager Darren Ferguson gives Matty the game time that he needs to develop as a player.

If he goes out we have already been told it will be to at least National Premier level, and there are a few interested, so again unfortunately it won’t happen... have been in many communications over the last two weeks with numerous parties, however nothing has come off yet for a number of reasons, we are not just sitting here doing nothing believe me.
