Sutton Replay

Recommended Posts

First time I've been able to go for ages due to illness. What a tonic. Thought they were the better side for 20 minutes but we deserved the win on our second half performance (and having the best of the few chances in extra time.)

Few observations having seen the BBC highlights

  • Manny does a great job in creating the hole in the wall and Dobbo an even better job in finding it!
  • Nothing broke for Mattie Stevens last night but he worked his socks off as ever
  • Though Josh Jackman had an excellent game as well although I understand why Lee got the MOTM. Personally I'd find it hard to choose between about 6 and no-one had a bad game.
  • For their goal someone got free in the box close to goal again - not panicking about it at all and I'm sure the managers will review but it does need watching.

Overall a great whole squad victory and night.

Who do we want - Hartlepool, one league up but lower than Sutton or Gillingham, similar to Rochdale with possible TV?

What a great advert for non league football that was last night, loved every second of it. I thought we shaded it, Sutton were a threat when they broke at us and so they should be.

I really felt for Chris Flood last night, nothing came off for him. Keep on going though Chris, you'll get back to the heights you achieved last season soon enough!

Hartlepool as it'll upset JEFF if we win

TV games have already been decided.

We will play on Sunday with, as far as I'm aware,  extended goal/game highlights being shown by either Sky or BT or both?

It seems both Hartlepool and Gillingham fans think they will lose tonight and are slagging off there teams saying how bad they are.

It was a great night to be a Rebel and was well worth the soaking I got !

As Stan said for the first twenty minutes of the game Sutton looked a side, a division above us but after digging in and getting to see a lot more of the ball Slough started to turn the game around on Sutton.  Sutton went from looking like world beaters, to looking like panel beaters. From such an auspicious start by the Sutton team, to how ragged they became, for the Sutton manager he must be scratching his head, how that was to be.

All credit to our team for sticking to the task in hand and not being overawed by Sutton. Lee Togwell was immense last night and he throughly deserved the Man of the Match accolade he received at the end, in my opinion. To me he worked his socks off and got among the Sutton midfield players and definitely upset their rhythm. With his inspiring performance, others started to show up.Thought Mark Nisbet had a great game, too [and he also took his penalty coolly !]. He doesn't always get the plaudits he deserves but since he arrived at our club he has steadied our defensive ship and while he is prone to making the odd gaffe, in the big games he always shines through. I like the fact that he is an unassuming sort of guy but no one's fool on the pitch. He has a quiet assurance about him. Slough have prospered since he came to the club and you have to credit the managers for sticking with him, when some wouldn't have done.                                                                             Together with Sam Togwell who also did well last night  [and Guy Hollis when he gets the chance] we have a solid enough platform to build on for this season. If we start leaking goals, later in the campaign, three centre halves in the team could be handy.

Dobbo was typical dobbo last night, wouldn't say it was his best performance in a Slough shirt but he is always likely to give us something special. I like when he comes into midfield centrally, as he is a handful for defenders. The way the game was going, it didn't look like we would score from open play, even though we had had quite a few chances,so it was a blessed relief that Dobbo got us that free kick equaliser.

All the team were a credit to the fans last night, and so I'll leave criticism of one particular player for another day, the drama of extra time and the splendid penalty shoot out are the best things for this message to focus on. What a night to be a Slough Town fan !

We deserved victory and for justice, we got it. Well done all involved. A night to saviour.

Agree with most of what you've said 3spirit but sometimes credit has to go to the team i.e. Slough for improving and getting to grips with the oppo rather than them getting ragged etc.

Agree about Lee Togwell, what a game he had!

Just a superb evening and result...... and the 20th November will likely become a very memorable date for Slough fans as it was also date in 1982 on which the much talked about 1-0 win against Millwall in the FA Cup happened!!

If we make it to the 3rd Round though we might start talking more about the future than the past though!!

That day Millwall visited was memorable for so many reasons.  Some of them football related!

Agree with everything that has been said so far, they started the better team for the first 20 minutes and i was thinking we were going to get a pasting, however Lee Togwell was everywhere! Putting his head and legs in to every challenge.  I thought the substitutions were spot on and all 3 that came on played their part.  I was shocked to see in the 2nd half how much quicker we were to every ball and Sutton`s energy levels were almost running on empty.

I don`t want to focus on negative things on such a great night for everyone but was disgusted to see two kids stood at the front spitting at their Goalkeeper everytime he took a goal kick, one of them in particular kept on doing it and my mate I was with did bring it to a stewards attention, after 28 years of supporting Slough I don`t want to be associated with something as disgusting.

My friends and I were talking last night, how great it was to see so many young faces in the crowd, in their new Slough bobble hats and scarves, and that it was about time that youngsters had discovered Slough Town FC. However, the two kids you mention sound brain dead and they should have been chucked out. Was anything done about them? Didn't any of the Slough fans tell them to stop?

Hartlepool are bottom of the ‘away’ form guide over their last four matches.... I don’t think there is any doubt they would be our better chance of progressing.

They will be similar quality to Sutton though, and we would have to be excellent on the day again, and have a big crowd cheering on the lads.
