Hi Neil,

I thought you were taking exception to someone saying we had utilised some long ball tactics on Saturday, when I thought we clearly had...... but obviously there is a lot more to it than that.

And just in case it was misunderstood, I wasn't criticising Jack's distribution.

It is not a dispute Mark and I actually don’t care for stats on passing success and what is short and long, as it is irrelevant as proved when a team loses despite having 75 per cent posession, only thing that really matters is how many goals and points we can amount, i am just fed up with his constant digs at our team...

It is mind numbing to be honest, and stems back to when I had a dispute with him face to face last season in the bar about his constant negativity on the forum, and he told me he can say what he wants as he is a paying spectator, and he is right....  however I also have a right to respond, as I and Unders put a huge part of our lives into this football club (and I mean we live and breathe it) not just a couple of hours on a match day.

I would say we are pretty balanced, we are not the type to say we were great when we are not, and are pretty honest when we are poor (as every team is).

The fact he did not congratulate the team on promotion said that he took it personally that I had the audacity to challenge him in the bar and he would rather we (myself and Jon) are unsuccessful.

i think it is fair to say we have played some brilliant football over the years, and also been direct, we do what is necessary to win games of football by putting good players on the pitch, and each game can vary.

Jack is one of the best passers of the ball we have, and most of his kicks are long to either full backs, or wingers, huge weapon to have, and allows us to play further up the pitch when we have it, instead of passing it around the back, where we could pass the ball 20 times and then give it away and allow them to score.

I think our stats stand up against most managers that have been at the club, and for that we are proud, however we will continue to strive to keep improving, until the day we are told we are not to.

Neil,

I personally am very grateful that you are as accessible as you are both online and in person and explain so candidly why you make the decisions you do. Plainly you set up differently for different teams (eg narrow against HH and wider against Concord.) I think we play a pretty varied game - on our day our short passing and releasing of players is very good and it's my preference to see that but this league requires more discipline and we have strengths in both forward speed and distribution (not just but including Jack) that we would foolish not to utilise in the mix. To be 8th at this stage is exceptional and whilst my kidneys won't let me get to the games at present both via Rebels Radio and the highlights I am so impressed with the way the whole team are approaching the season. (Closing down seems to have gone up a whole level for example.)

When I can get to games I'm afraid I've never been a behind the goal person but I stand at the side and shout both team and individual encouragement (one of the beauties of non league football is that sometimes that can be direct to a player when you see the head drop....) If you would indulge a 50 year supporter and the middle generation of the Randall rebels please pass on my my admiration to the whole team (even those finding themselves on the edge right now) and simple encouragement to believe in themselves and each other.

the game today although a victory against a good side was hardly inspiring at times, we looked a little laboured and had problems defending set plays. we still favour the long ball though we seem to cause teams more problems when we keep the ball down and use movement with accurate short to medium passes just an observation.

Heavy Trucker our defending was so poor we kept a clean sheet and Mark Nisbet  named in the National South Team of the Week-end.

What game was you watching.

SD, TBF to Heavy Trucker he's not saying we had problems in general terms with our defending but mainly from set plays i.e. corners and free kicks which I think is a fair enough comment.

And TBF to our defence I think a lot of teams would struggle with the quality of Concords set play delivery.

So does every premier league team struggle with whipped in free kicks and corners all part of the game not poor defending.

So the Concord player hit the post from the cross to be honest he should of scored.

Also RR you and Heavy Trucker would being saying what a brilliant cross if it was Dobbo doing it.

And what a brilliant run in the box by Matty for the penalty.

Not one defender would say he enjoys it when a player runs at them into the penalty area both are the same thing and it's not bad defending.

We took our chance and they did not.

Of course it goes without saying that most teams would struggle with  accurate 'whipped in free kicks and corners'.

SD if you read the post correctly I don't think HT has used the words 'poor defending' just that we had problems defending set plays which is correct, as most teams would have.

Correct, so I'm not sure what point you're making.

I repeat, I don't think anyone has said it was bad defending.

Although a few places/points above us currently Concord R have achieved this due to an excellent home record. Only one loss (Welling) and five victories However  they don't travel well  just two away wins  One at basement team WSM  and one at Dulwich early in the season when Dulwich couldn't buy a goal

I'm expecting a Rebel win after a mini hiccup when  we got 1 point in 6 although most observers thought we  could/should have had more And there will be a large crowd ( so long as the weather isn't atrocious) after a run of away games and hopefully the same kind of noise all game that we manage away and can so lift the squad

The weather was fine but there was England v South Africa, Brentford v Millwall and Wycombe Wanderers v Peterborough United to compete with.

I should of said it.s not always about poor defending most instances the player is under pressure which forces him to make the wrong decision

"We do what is necessary to win games of football" is the best sign of a successful management team that you can have. Paul Doswell is fully aware of the threat Sutton are facing on Saturday, despite having similar qualities himself. I am up here in Whitby dreaming of Togs practicing his shooting at training this evening and putting away at least half of the chances that he had against Concord last Saturday. "Every dog has it's day, Togs!!!" Sutton United have their very own "Super Togs" in 34 years old Nick Bailey. He is a midfield dynamo who can up the tempo in matches, knows where the goal is and can be a real wind-up merchant of the opposition.

Would say jack turner, keeper who is capable of unbelievable saves like at Chelmsford earlier this season (check it out on twitter). James Dobson, top scorer for last 2 seasons from left wing, capable of magic moments. Finally matty Stevens, striker on loan from Peterborough who just runs and runs all day long and has scored 8 in 13 since joining us. The other 8 aren’t bad either!!! ?
