FA Cup 1st. Round Proper

Tough draw but fond memories of Sutton. A scratch side winning one nil there after the club nearly ceased to exist in 98/99. They went on to win the league at a canter.

No money from the crowd?

I reckon there will be over 2,000

Obviously we’ll make some money (maybe £5k) but it’ll be chicken feed compared to what could have been.

Not sure you can say form is irrelevant. Playing a team who lost their last 5 is surely a little easier than won that has won their last 5?

Agree that cup ties are one off games but form is relevant without doubt its about self belief and self confidence  Last Saturday we had lost just one in nine our opponents had won one in seven  Which team bossed the game and could have won by a greater margin? RR we will have to agree to differ.

Adrian, of course we are both right, games can go to form but as we know form can also get turned upside down.

I doubt anyone would be that foolish to underestimate Sutton United when they’re the higher placed team! We should hold no fear, we’ll be backed by a large contingent (no doubt it’ll be segregated) and if we can play with freedom who knows?

Not a good draw but I am looking towards the next round already.

I always thought Suton a souless ground to visit ( no atmosphere ) but if we put our 2 best strikers on from the start we have every chance.

Without cheating, who can name the line up from that opening game in 1998? I reckon I have about 7/8 at the moment.

I was on holiday in Turkey, I got the paper for the results the next day and prayed that we at least had a team that played (there was a chance that we had folded), I could not believe that we had beaten them, that made for a great holiday.

PS   The last time I can remember going to Sutton Utd was 1981 when we beat them 1-2 to win the league.

We went to Gainsborough Trinity (who were a division higher than us) at this stage last season and won, so we're going to have to do the same again...... and we could take some encouragement from a similar match up in the last round where Hampton & Richmond went to Eastleigh and won 1-0.

The Eastleigh match had an attendance of 740, and I wouldn't anticipate our match with Sutton United attracting more than a 1,000, so a big Slough following could make a significant difference...... start making your travel arrangements or booking the coach now if you would like to see us in the 2nd Round.

They average 1800 for league games so FA Cup 1st round plus us taking a few could be 2000 plus.

We should certainly expect to be competitive though and hope for the second round again.

And Eastleigh average 1,600...... but a lot of season ticket holders don't turn up for pay on the day cup matches, especially against lower division opposition.

We average nearly 900 for league matches, but 481 turned up for our Bristol Manor Farm home match.

I was there to on a barmy fabulous evening.

Andy Deaner gets another mention as he scored in the 1 nil win in the  first game at Sutton when we got kicked out of the Conference with no pre season games and twelve players only gathered together a day before the match what a win non of them could run in the second half all shattered.

Different - wasn't 1st round, the clubs have no history and the prize not so high...we'll see. I think it'll be more than 1000 but maybe not 2000
