Welling v Slough

Deserved a draw out of that. But they are not 2nd for nothing . We acquitted ourselves well and once again it’s fine margins in this league.  Gave us real problems at times but we hung on well and were better side 2nd half .

Onwards and up for the cup next week !

Back from the Erith and Belevedire library. What a shambles of a club Welling are.

They were no where near prepared for a crowd today. 10 minute wait for a simple burger, which tasted sh*t, and reports they had run out of food by half time!

Their so called fans were the quietest in a very long time. The one man and a drum from BMF was louder.

Can’t fault the lads effort today, on the pitch at least Welling are a good team. The 11 is ridiculously quick and if he learnt to cross the ball would be playing in the football league no problems. We could have knocked an equaliser in at the end but not to be.

On to Eastbourne and out sing the locals again.

Welling were definitely the better team in the first half.

We got caught cold early in the half with a poorly defended free kick but had one glorious chance that Manny spooned over the bar.

The Welling number 11 was on fire in the first half and I'm sure Sean Fraser's head is still spinning.

We were a bit fortunate to come in at half time only a goal down but credit to the boy's for a very good second half performance where I thought we were the better side and a bit unfortunate not to come away with a point.

Apart from Dobbo's goal our two best second half chances came from a Ben Harris free header, which in truth he should have done better with and a far post header from Sam Togwell which almost earned us a deserved point.

Welling looked a good side going forward but certainly a bit shaky at the back and if nothing else I think today proved that we have nothing to fear and can certainly hold our own in this division.

COYR!!!!!!!!

Thought we were a bit unlucky to lose the game in the end. Was 100% a pen, but on the balance of play we were definitely worth a point. A vastly better performance yesterday, not at our flowing best, but certainly good enough for a point.

If Welling are right up there in terms of team in this division (and their league position would say they are) then I am very confident Slough will continue to be "up there" as well.

The next 2 month's will be very challenging for the boys, with the FA Cup, some more away games and the current 2 scheduled home matches in the next 2 month's being Woking and Billericay, I think if we can still be in and around the play offs after that, we will be in for a very, very good season indeed.

A very good chance the Billericay game will have to be rearranged due to the next round of the cup unless both us and Billericay get knocked out.

Here's a few photos from the match yesterday (link below)

I thought Welling controlled the game in the first half, forcing us into errors, which were effective for them, especially with the earl goal.

From the start of the second half, we had a lot more belief in our ability, and got to Welling more and more as the game went on, especially after Dobbo's goal.

The more the game went on, the more Welling got frustrated that what the were doing in the first half was no longer working.

We could have got the lead, before the penalty, which as soon as the attacker got the ball, he was looking for, and got.

This was the toughest test to date, and I think the players just proved to themselves that they can handle the best in this league.

RR Sometimes you have to read between the lines to understand the rhetoric When you say that a club you've just put 4 past on their ground is the best team you've played That's not a statement about them Its a statement about your own team imo

From behind it looked more like a penalty than the video shows, although it still looked more like a coming together at the time.

From what the video shows, he was on his way down when George placed his hand on his back.

This is that horrible 50/50 black spot, where half the refs give a penalty and the other half shout for him to get up, although if the ref sees this as one incident, first contact was outside the box, so it would then be a free kick.

Certainly some people might think that way but conversely others will give an honest opinion on how good/bad/unlucky the opposition were without any thought or bias towards their own team.

That's a fair comment RR. I based my conclusion on the reality of Eastbourne's season so far They are 15th in the league and are only that high because they are the only side in our league who haven't lost an away game They are very adept at putting up the shutters and grinding out away draws At home a different story  They've lost their last three consecutive home league games conceding 10 goals in the process I really couldn't see them being the best team Torquay have played!

Good interview on the Welling site from their Manager Steve King giving us some good compliments.

This is that interview.

Not sure about being 4-1 up at half time,,,, up yes but not 4-1. If you add all the chances then Matts header Nis corners x2. would be counted.
