v Eastbourne Borough

Reading Rebel

When you say a few faces from Slough you mean our managers? Can’t imagine any Slough fans would made the trip to Southampton even if they were local? Onto that game itself, I’m sure we’ll prepare in the correct manner and our managers and players should know not to be complacent but with our recent run you have to be confident of getting through plus banking a tasty £9,000.

Quite right I meant anyone who scouts for us.

An Eastbourne reporter's view on the game :

Kevin Anderson

10 hrs

For info, this is the NLP report as writ - it suffered a bit of subbing! There'll be full considered reports in due course from McEwan and Anderson, the Stadler and Waldorf of non-league journalism.... A remarkable smash and grab performance saw Rebels claim all three points, despite losing centre-half and captain Mark Nisbett to a 10th-minute red card.

Nisbett was dismissed for bringing down home centre-forward Charlie Walker on the edge of the box. Slough instantly reshaped, replacing a striker with an extra defender, and everyone settled in for an eighty-minute siege.

But Rebels hot-shot Matty Stephens, on loan from Peterborough, tore up that game-plan with two smartly taken goals, on 16 and 20 minutes, to leave the Sports reeling.

And on the half-hour, David Martin’s tackle on Josh Jackman was judged marginally inside the box by referee Dean Skipper, and James Dobson converted for 3-0 – with incensed Sports manager Jamie Howell sent to the stands.

Walker pulled one back just before half-time, and Borough sensed a second-half come-back. But they were disastrously undone by yet another Stephens breakaway on 62 minutes. A sweet Dean Cox strike instantly pulled it back to 4-2, and for a while the improbable seemed possible as Kris Campbell headed inches over, Walker’s overhead kick hit the crossbar and Jack Turner beat out a thunderous Cox volley.

But the Rebels, with stout defending and a dash of the Dark Arts – two yellows for time-wasting and one for simulation – ran the clock down for a triumphant victory.

Having watched the video from yesterdays game did Nis fouling the player stop him from having a goal scoring opportunity is debatable but possibly correct.

Also the penalty foul was at least on the line so a definite penalty.

The highlights on Eastbourne Borough's website are beautiful to watch and listen to. Top camera work and top commentary :-
