v Oxford City

It was not a penalty in my opinion, and if it had been against us we would have been bitterly disappointed, and we were very fortunate to get it, however we have had numerous turned down and poor decisions go against us so won’t complain...

The red card is one of those where some would give it, others wouldn’t, matter of opinion, however the fact Matty got the wrong side of the defender and he was pulling his shirt back, in my opinion it was a red.

We created the better chances throughout the game, and deserved the win... we also looked pretty solid without the ball as someone else has mentioned, that person is correct that we have to be comfortable without the ball at times...

The biggest issue you normally find stepping up a level is conceding goals, however 7 from 9 games where we have used 6of our defenders in various combinations is a great return.

Bakes, being more compact, solid without the ball, sitting deep or whatever people like to call it, is that an actual tactic of ours this season or just something that happens during a game?

It’s something we have to be able to do and have to accept that we won’t have things all our own way in this league. We have to be comfortable with that and be able to just ‘sit in’ and be solid when necessary.

I thought we did that very well at times yesterday.

We’ve always been very positive managers who look to outscore the opposition (an obvious statement I know!) but there are different ways to do this and sometimes you need to make yourselves hard to break down.

Firstly well done to our players for bagging another 3 points despite not playing that well which is a real plus.

One thing I'm having great difficulty sussing out, particularly in midfield, is are the oppo players that much better than last seasons top teams or are we for some reason dropping too deep and allowing too much time and space. I only say this because for me Oxford looked that much quicker and sharper and for a lot of the time seemed to have the space to dominate the midfield.

Not sure where the Ref only got 1 minute of added time with us making 3 subs and Oxford 2 or 3.

MOTM for me was Matty Stevens who effort and tireless running over the 90 minutes deserved a couple of goals.

Have a look at Gary House's match photo 85. The aerial power of Matt Stevens is dominating the box, something IMO and quite a few others we have been lacking in recent seasons.

Matt Stevens was a menace to Oxford City throughout the match with his pace and getting in to positions. I felt that he made sure that he went down in the penalty and sending off incidents and in another incident just outside the Oxford box in the second half. He had certainly been having his shirt pulled from some way back in the sending off incident.

In addition to this tremendous loan signing, I noticed a number of new faces amongst the Rebels supporters. Keep 'em coming!!!

Does anyone know why the Oxford City manager wasn't wearing the regulation blue JAKO clobber?

League rule 8.29:

All occupants of the technical area must wear the corporate bench kit supplied to each member club. Failure to wear the bench kit will result in a fine. The only exception would be the team manager who will be allowed to wear suits and overcoats not displaying any sponsorship logos.

Thanks.

Would love to see Bakes and Unders in suits by the dugout!

As if Oxford's luck was not already bad enough, I have just noticed that the Oxford player who burst through early in the second half one on one with Turner was given off side when he was clearly a yard or two on.

Great defending on the goal line by Lee in the Second half as well.

Sam showing his wealth of experience a calming influence and directing the back line as well.
