After the interval it was a different story, as Carshalton, inspired by their substitute, Tommy Bradford, gave the home defence a torrid time, until they deservedly drew level seven minutes from time. In heatwave conditions both sides went close early on, Brad Warner for Hornchurch and Jordan Cheadle for Carshalton, but play was largely confined to midfield, until Hornchurch, with George Saunders looking dangerous on the wing, began to find gaps in the visiting defence. A Saunders cross was deflected for a corner, but Cheadle dealt confidently with the ball as it came over from Brad Warner, and another corner was headed away to safety, as Hornchurch applied steady pressure. A George Purcell shot from thirty yards went over, and Hornchurch were unfortunate when Lewwis Spence fired in a hard drive that came back off the post, and Leon McKenzie followed up, only to be denied by Billy Bishop. Hornchurch went ahead six minutes from half time when George Purcell, homing I on goal, was sent crashing to the ground, and it was Purcell who picked himself up to slot home the resultant penalty. In the final minute of the half a Cheadle free kick rebounded off the wall to safety. The second half was a different story as the home defence was put under considerable pressure, although Callum Chafer had only a handful of shots to deal with, thanks to some excellent defensive work, with Nathan Cooper outstanding. A Ricky Korboa cross was cleared by Jay Porter, but Dos Santos, along with substitute Tommy Bradford, began to cause the home defence a lot of problems. Back at the other end Nathan Livings sliced a shot wide after a Saunders cross had been only half cleared, but play quickly moved back to the windmill end of the ground where Jerson Dos Santos put a shot wide. But it was Dos Santos who equalised when he followed up to score from close range after a shot had come back off the post. Hornchurch replied with two corners in quick succession, but they were unable to find a way through a well-drilled defence, and the match ended with neither teams able to claim the points.
