v Dulwich Hamlet

Give Dulwich Supporters respect getting behind there team with a variety of songs with humour without the swearing thats how it should be.

What has has been unnoticeable are the players playing one touch to many and the strikers snatching at the chances.

In the southern Prem you had more time.

The higher up you go the less time you get.

The managers and players knew that would be the case anyway just needs abit of tweaking.

I see the Chippenham Chairman has made a statement about the bad chanting language coming from there Supporters at recent matches.

With another home attendance over 1,000 it would appear a fan base is growing that wants to get behind the team.... a few good results and there’s a possibility they will keeping coming back in numbers.

Not if we keep chucking games away they wont.

Just looked at the video.

Paused it to the point of Louis Soares making contact with the header and Perry Coles is onside with the lino not directly in line to give the offside, so a very poor decision.

Also I'd say a defo foul on Perry for a penalty when he gets barged from behind.

Also confirmed that their second goal was a tad lucky with the slight deflection off Floody's boot.

  • 3 weeks later...

Oh dear :(

Another poor performance (although better than Saturday). 2 in a row now. It is getting a bit old already this early in the season to be looking at the number of wasted chances we are creating. Unfortunately in this league, we can't waste 6-10 chances a game and expect to come out with something.

Not sure what has happened in the last week, but both Saturday and today our central midfield was terrible. No idea who was picking MOM today, but how on earth they came up with Simon Dunn is beyond me.

It was all too easy for Dulwich to pass through the midfield and onto their attackers. The #2 for virtually the whole 2nd half had about 30 yards of space to play in down our left. If the Dulwich players had noticed he would have had 7 or 8 more opportunities to cross the ball.

Both their goals were nice and easy for them to score as well.

I'm still looking at the first 10 games as the measuring stick but 6 goals in 7 matches isn't looking that positive thus far.

We don't become a bad side over night, but in this league, average or below average performances get punished and you come away with nothing, and we have got exactly what we deserved this weekend from our performances. Hopefully we can turn it around for next weekend and beyond, otherwise this is going to be a very long season.

10 game mark now and 1.7 ppg I would say we are doing pretty well considering it is our first season at this level.

What I would say is we won’t get carried away with three wins on the bounce, same way we won’t get carried away when we lose two on the bounce, however even now it is frustrating that when we do lose one or two games people come out and question everything (especially when we are up a level and people talk about consolidation which does mean losing games at times), as apposed to looking at the fact that we lost those particular two games by the odd goal, and missed a number of chances in each to win then, however I guess this is modern day football, and with social media/platforms for people to vent...

The amount of times we hear about the need for this big striker etc, and not just 3spirit ;-) well we have gone and got a striker who is smaller than both Floody and Ben... it is a myth.. how many top 6 foot plus strikers do you actually see these days, there are not loads, and certainly not lots scoring 25 plus goals. And the stats for one of our strikers winning flick ons against centre halves is actually very impressive, will leave you to work out who that is.

Anyway an excellent weekend, and we now look forward to the FA Cup which we all know is a special competition, but don’t just assume victory, get to Arbour Park and get behind the lads, and make sure you are there for our whole journey, however long or short it may be.

Agree with what you say Neil, hence the 10 game bench mark being the line in my original post. Looking at the results we have had this season the most disappointing has to be East Thurrock, we were very poor against a poor side. The Dulwich one doesn't look so bad with a couple of their results since, but 1-0 early in the 2nd half just became disappointing to end up in a loss.

As you said, no need to get carried away with 3 wins just like 2 losses, the most important thing to us is the performances, in which apart from East Thurrock have been very good to excellent. The goals scored v Eastbourne will also hopefully start to come along with the excellent defensive record.

With regards to the "big" striker debate, from our end it's more based on having something different should we need it. Whilst I'm certain the pitches will be better this season than last, when the weather sets in, sometimes the direct play can be a useful tactic to deploy. Against 2 big centre backs, our forwards could struggle with getting the ball down from a longer ball game. The best thing about this "debate" is the position of strength that we are having it from and that is down to you, Jon and the team. What a lovely position as a club to be in, debating different tactics and approaches sitting 7th in a new league following a promotion :)

With regards to the journey, we'll be there win, lose or draw and hopefully be positive, negative and middle of the road with the team as well. Always try to offer a balanced view on what we see (as you know) as we find that's the best way to be. You and Jon have always been very open and honest and that is a great thing to have in the club, so thank you for that.

Long may things continue in a winning and positive vain :)

And by the way SF my comments were not just directed towards you from quoting your post, but I was quoting the bit about the 10 games ;-)

In terms of the big striker debate, again it is irrelevant at home, as whatever the conditions the way we play does not change, and in reality we will play on much better pitches than we have done in the past (in fact I think we have played on one of the two poor pitches in the league already) and not having that target man did not stop us on poor pitches last season, and it won’t this season... and as I say whilst we don’t have a 6 foot 3 centre forward, I can assure you one of our strikers at least jumps higher than a lot of target men I know.

No worries Neil, full, part or 1 line quoted, I think that having the opportunity to interact with the managers of the team you support so directly is fantastic. You mentioned the social media aspect of the sport nowadays and having this type of discussion, agree or disagree with the points made is the beauty of it.

Keep up the good work, it's a great time to be a Rebels fan for many reasons and long may it continue :)

1.7 ppg is ahead of what any realistic fan would have expected and in the top third is showing why we came second in last year’s league – Hereford were a rogue team.

It is not about individual players, it is about the TEAM. Neil and Jon have proven this consistently with their player choices and the results speak for themselves.

Nice distraction of the FA Cup next weekend, Neil can we please win that this year otherwise this season will be a disaster!!!!!!!!

The most dangerous ball in football is the early cross , as Dobbo proved twice yesterday (and in the playoffs to get us here ) ! Not into a 6ft + giant but to players that know their craft. Matty scored with his head yesterday because of brilliant positioning. Look back and see how many goals midget Michael Owen scored with his head because he knew where to be !

Almost a quarter of the season gone and I'd have snapped your hand off for. 7th by now at the start. Hardest part was always going to be how we stepped up to more organised teams and we have done that. Now the sunny days are coming to an end and we prepare to enter the

Part of the season that sorts out the men from the boys between November and February.

So enjoy days like these , sitting in our highest position in a couple of decades, regular crowds bigger than we have seen in donkeys years and still getting great games like yesterday.

Just like to add that yes agree the early cross is the most dangerous in football but just as important is the accuracy of the cross which Dobbo seems to be able to do on a regular basis.
