East Thurrock United v Slough Town 25th August 2018

The 'average' teams in this league are probably better than the so-called average teams in the Southern Prem and we are only at the start of a steep learning curve. No need to start panicking yet. I'm sure our management team will come up with the right decisions going forward.

Having said that the so called average teams in this league would not get anywhere near the play-offs in the Southern Prem.

At the end of the day we have no right to expect to beat anyone. Too many had off days for us yesterday and although not a brilliant side, East Thurrock were committed and managed to take advantage.

Again we didn't quite convert the the possession we had in and around the box into too many clear cut chances. As mentioned other than a few blocks with his legs their keeper hasn't done a lot all game. Turner in fairness wasn't called upon too much either which in a way makes it even more frustrating that we've ended up losing.

We move on though, its still been a solid start to life in a higher level. There is bound to be ups and downs and lessons to learn. Hopefully we can get a good result tomorrow what with a few who will have a point to prove after a disappointing day

Let’s not focus on the negatives (and there haven’t been too many to be fair) we have lost one in four games by the odd goal, where let’s be honest we didn’t really play well, but as per conversation with their manager we should have been three up at half time.

We know our issues at present is our decisions in the final third, and we are working hard on this, and we will get that right, as we have good players, if we were not creating then that would be a problem.

In terms of rotation, we have already said to our lads that there will be less of this after this weekend, as we go into one game a week, however we will still make the odd changes when we feel, and the lads were made aware of this on Thursday at training, however the rotation is only ever brought up when people look for excuses, the facts are we were a missed penalty, and a first half where we take good chances away from winning four on the bounce.

We all have to learn that we will not win every game, and need a sense of realism, yes we can all be frustrated when we lose a game, as that is part and parcel of football, however the main positive we are 6 games in, and we are clearly a side that is comfortable at the level, and currently sit one point off a play off position, in an extremely tight league.

No disrespect we will not get a Dunstable, Gosport etc at this level, so whether a team is rooted to the bottom, does not mean a free ride, East Thurrock were beaten one nil by a 97th minute penalty against Woking (top of the league) and if you want to check out the footage you will see the penalty given was never a penalty in a million years.

Football is won and lost by taking/not taking your chances, they did we didn’t.
