The first action came on nine minutes Tobi Coker was fouled ten yards outside the area. George Purcell stepped up to take the kick and the ball rebounded off the defensive wall. Callum Chafer was called upon to save a difficult cross from Joe Pattison on the right, and a shot from Luke Hornsley was wide of the goal. Leon McKenzie twice went close, his first attempt being well held by Alfie Cobden, and four minutes later when heheaded over from a Jay Porter Cross. A McKenzie cross from the left just evaded Sean Marks, and close to half time Chafer had to punch away another dangerous cross from the right. Predictably both sides made changes at the interval, and it was one of the newcomers, Dumebi Dumaka, who scored the only goal of the match when he neatly placed the ball past the keeper after good work by Theo Fairweather-Johnson. More changes followed, and Hornchurch had several chances to have increased their lead - a shot from Fairweather-Johnson skimmed the bar, a Kenzer Lee from a corner was cleared off the line, Paulius Ditkevicius was thwarted by the keeper in a one on one situation, and two fine crosses from George Saunders went begging across the goal. Whilst in the final minute it was Chafer who was called upon to make an excellent save to keep a close range shot out of the net.
