But if we’ve scored all those goals there is obviously nothing wrong so where’s the panic to bring in this elusive big striker?

The managers will do what they want to do,Glen.

From my angle,we are limited in our options, by not having a big centre forward or a strong pacy forward /and a big centre half. The mere fact that we are stepping up a division and will no longer be among the best in the division, makes me think that we will need to beef up the team eventually, as I think we might be found wanting as the season wears on.

Of course I don't want it to happen but there are some bloody good teams in this division and I would prefer to have all bases covered going into it.

Few people this time last year said we needed a big striker if we were to challenge for promotion.

Then those same people moaned when we let big Brad Wadkins go and said it would be an issue for us.

Then we got promoted

Is it moaning?  I thought Brad Wadkins was an asset to the balance of the team but for whatever reason his face didn't fit in the end and you and Bakes got rid. Nothing wrong in that, as it's yours and Bakes neck on the line if things aren't going well, and he obviously didn't live up to what you wanted.

It's hardly ever what supporters want, as often we lose our favourite players. At the time I thought we let Brad go prematurely but I don't know all the facts for his departure.

What I would say, though, and I know I'm not alone in saying this, is that a bigger forward [who is no mug] would benefit our side especially with the amount of lofted crosses we play into the box.

In the short time,Brad was with us I thought he did well for us.

The same people,Jon?  You mean me, I don't mind you saying it.

I think it's easy for you, to justify your actions but we as supporters who give our opinions, cannot verify our notions,as they are not put into practice. Doesn't mean to say that they would prove wrong, though.

I've watched enough football over the years to know what front partnerships can be the most effective.

There's no hard and fast rule to have a tall, strong target man, as your team proved last season,Jon, but I think we miss a lot chances, too, by not not having one.

Anyway, the decision is yours, not mine.

Of course they’ll do what they think is best, sort of goes without saying! Maybe see how our small forwards cope first before saying we have to have this big striker?

All I said, was the trialist striker is another midget. Don't tell me I've got to start talking about the weather again !

When I look at other clubs fan forums, most are much more controversial and outrageous in their comments, we seem to get pounced on, by saying hardly anything.

Don’t be such a sensitive flower! The managers (and a few fans) don’t agree with your opinion, no harm done?

It's not me being sensitive, it's our managers !

You're just a wind up merchant,Glen.

FWIW, I tend to agree with you 3spirit. Whilst the proof was obviously in the pudding with the promotion last season, I like the options having a variety of forwards gives.

In regards to the defence, I think one of our major weaknesses last season was the defending at corners and I hope that we have been working on (regardless of who the defenders are) as with the increase in quality in the league we are now in, I suspect that set pieces will be something many teams will take advantage of.

Having said the above, as long as the forwards fitness this season is not a problem, I'd have Flood and Harris down for plenty of goals between them supported well by Williams and Coles.

I don't get why we get fixated on numbers of strikers we have. Yes 3 or 4 are the norm but there is nothing in writing that says you only have to have 3 or 4.

To me it's about the type of strikers we have. I think Chris Flood is our best forward at the club,as his all round game is better than the others ie he's good with his feet and is good in the air He is a clever forward. I would pair him with someone like Ryan Bird.

I would keep Perry Coles as he works tirelessly and is a natural goalscorer. An ideal number 9.

Manny Williams I wouldn't class as and out and out striker, to me I would, at times, like to see him play in the

' hole '  behind the front two.

Ben Harris was a good signing last season but think because of injury and his mentality in some of  his latter games last season, needs to prove his merit to the team again this season, as I thought he had one or two games where he was a liability in his atttitude to the laws of the game and to officials.

So to me, we have one proven Conference South forward in Chris Flood.

We have two untested forwards in Perry Coles and Ben Harris although think both have the ability to get goals in Conf S especially as they get good service from our creative midfield.

We also the mercurial talents of the evergreen but ageing utility player in Manny Williams

I personally think we are a bit light up front. Hence why I would look for a strong, tall target man with Conference South experience.

You’re crazy man! Ok let’s have 6 strikers and you can tell the other 4 to sit on the bench or not turn up! 4 is plenty and probably hard enough to keep happy let alone more. I think you’re fixation on strikers is getting out of hand and you may need to visit a specialist...

I'm not sure there's any point in having this discussion now The lads have made it clear that they are happy to give last seasons team plus a couple of journeymen the chance to prove themselves at the new level At the end of August we will have played 7 league games IMO that will be a good time to take stock of the early performances and say what we think of the progress so far.

Last year we scored 111 league goals and conceded 49 goals in 46 matches.

On average the sides finishing in the top seven in the Conference South scored 70 goals and conceded 45 goals in 42 matches.

On the strength of last season do I think we have enough of an attacking threat, not just with our strikers but also our attacking midfielders, to score 70 league goals? Absolutely YES.

Do I think we are strong enough defensively to make the step up a level and still concede little more than an average of a goal per match? NO.

And this is why I think we will be an entertaining side to watch this season, but I don’t think we will finish in the top seven.

I think we'd all take finishing 8th.
