Players re-signing, leaving and joining

Recommended Posts

You are right,CR, I wasn't saying cast aside any of our strikers, I was trying to relay that we need a striker more apt to complement the ones we have. You mentioned Dave Tarpey but as good as he is, I feel we should be looking for a striker to replace Brad Wadkins and Gavin James. To me that isn't Dave Tarpey.

I suggested Lloyd Macklin because everytime I've seen him play I've thought he's looked a handful to defenders and is not easy to get off the ball but when I said him, I did say such as him. It was an example not a must do.

Steve King, the now Welling manager, who is no mug when it comes to signings and getting the best from players, took a chance on Macklin for Whitehawk last season, so I don't believe I'm totally barking up the wrong tree.

The real facts are, though, that whoever the manager is, some players just don't fit with their way of doing things, either through personality or through their team's opinions on them.

Of course, the manager needs to have a happy camp and so will tend towards players they feel are the right fit for them and they have their own ideas.

I understand this.

As a supporter, I only say what I see in front of me. When I go and watch non-league football matches I watch both teams in action, not just the one I favour.

I'm quite good at picking out those who look useful, and aren't just the average player, whether they are young upcomers or technically gifted experienced ones.

What is plain daft is when people discount your opinion because they don't share it. I call that being narrow minded.

He scored his goal for Hayes and you could see he was knackered after 45 minutes.

In my view.

Macklin will get goals?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lloyd_Macklin

Please check out his stats. He has not scored double figures in a season ever. We have 2 wide players who scored more goals last season than he has managed in any season in his career.

Please can we stop putting players on a pedastal and just assume they are better than what we have just because they played a few games (in a relegated side in this case) in the conference south last season.

And 3spirit which one of the 4 strikers who helped us get promoted would you be casting aside now to make room for this player?

Unders, just a couple of side issues you raised that need a reply. Firstly Steve King's record at Whitehawk was very good despite relegation. He took over just before Xmas when they were already bottom of the table, he got rid of 17 players and bought in 17 new players from various clubs. After New Year to the end of the season his squad had the third best points ratio, only being beaten by the top two sides that of Havant and Dulwich.

Getting a team to gel with an entire team who haven't played together is no mean feat and if he had been at the club from the start of the season, they would have stayed up.

The other thing I wanted to mention is about goals. It is very commendable that yours and Bakes team scores goals for fun and that goals come from all over but my point about Macklin wasn't just about his goal scoring. My point was about having a player that goal poachers can feed off of, who isn't a lightweight and leads the line well.

You quote, to stop putting players on a pedestal because they've played a few games in the Conference South but I've liked Lloyd Macklin for a good few seasons and would have liked him at Slough 3 seasons ago.

If fans can't share what they think about other clubs players, then the forum will be in a sorry state.

We watch entirely different games. You have your ideas, I have mine.

As was step 4 when we started, and step 3... we have both played at step 1 but that is irrelevant IMO, we will work hard and learn the teams in greater detail, however we will concentrate on what is most important, and what we have always concentrated on and that is ourselves.

You can over analyse everyone else, but if you get yourselves right you give yourselves a chance.

We might hit the ground running we might need to make changes as we go along, however we will relish the task either way.

Egomaniacs ! :D  :P

We have no need to replace Gav and Brad as this was done mid way through the season.

Brad left just after Christmas, and Gav not long after that.

We will never be in a position where we have 5 forwards, it is completely unworkable, so make of that what you wish.

At a rough guess then I'd say no striker will be coming in unless one leaves   B)

I cannot fathom why there is so much speculation about the ins and outs.

It is fairly obvious who 90% of the squad will be this coming season and Neil and Jon have loosely implied who they will be.

There may well be a couple of surprises but that will be all – and that will only become obvious in July when league papers are signed.

Far better speculating on the World Cup - here are a few subjects to ponder:

How big the fights in Russia will be?

How many dodgy decisions will be made to ensure Russia win?

The excuses by Gareth Southgate on why England underperformed – understand he has been watching Spencer Day videos to get the full range.

How many FA officials will go on the jolly?

We have four quality strikers at club who will all score goals at this level only hope we can sqeeze another season out of Manny, think there will be only a few tweaks in rest of squad.

Happy day's, that leaves 10% elbow room for more wild speculation

In all seriousness, until it is 100% certain who the 'ins and outs' will be supporters will always speculate. It's what happens on every football forum in the land so I'm not sure why it's so difficult to understand.

July is when league registration forms are out but at this level players are quite often put on contracts which is why a club can announce the player as 'signed'.

I just wish we could enjoy promotion and be thankful to the players that got us there.

And that is my opinion not because I am on the trust board, work in the club shop, close to management etc etc etc !

Sue, I'm sure we are all enjoying promotion and are extremely thankful to the players for getting us promotion.

Nobody is saying get rid of any player from last season but with Lenchy leaving there is a gap or two to bring in one or two quality players that will fit into our very close squad which I think are also the thoughts of our managers.

Having thought about it and after what Bakes has intimated, you are right Clive in respect that the only players that we will hear about having re-signed or signed for the club are the players who have signed a contract and they are Jack Turner, Scott Davies and Chris Flood and until league registration forms are signed in July it seems other players will not be announced which is totally understandable.

3spirit - I would assume that the 4 strikers Jon is referring to are Flood, Harris, Coles and Williams.

I think I look at it, in a squad way, and don't suffer the fixed notion on how many strikers you can have.

Admittedly,I have no idea on how much players cost.

My rationale is that I don't see Manny Williams as just a striker, to me he's so versatile and  is a great asset for the squad, so I wouldn't count him as being a fourth striker.

Last season we went with three right backs. I would rather go for two and  use a spare centre half or midfielder there if need be. That way we could accomodate another forward.
