Players re-signing, leaving and joining

Recommended Posts

How many times have you seen him play, Glen?

I think I've only seen him play once or twice, so am in no position to judge him but he wouldn't be the type of striker I would go after, bearing in mind the strikers we currently have.

I would take a chance on a striker such as Lloyd Macklin, who's played for Basingstoke,Met Police and Hayes/Yeading and got signed by Steve King for Whitehawk in the Conference South last season.

To me he's strong, direct, can hold off a player, has pace in the box and will get goals.

Relatively cheap,I would have thought,too.

Obviously, there's plenty of other good candidates about, the trouble is the best one's get snapped up early, so if we are after a forward, I hope we get in early with it.

Didn't Lloyd Macklin play a game or two for us, possibly a friendly, a couple of season ago?

Personally I wouldn't even consider him, for me he's become a bit of a journeyman living off the past.

IMO if we are going to get a striker it would have to be someone much better than him.

I don't think you'd have to see Dave Tarpey live to know that he's a very good striker at top non league level and possibly above.

Don’t think any of us are assuming any players mentioned are better than what we have, i’d happily start the season with no additions to the squad if everyone stays of course. The way Bakes and Unders rotated last season was fantastic and I’m sure 3spirit was not stating any of our current strikers should be cast aside.

I started this with the Tarpey rumour i’d heard, honestly didn’t mean to cause any offence and i’m sure others are just spitballing so to speak, thinking of ways to strengthen the squad, not replacing what we have.

One player destined for big things is George Wells, god I hope we can keep hold of him for a 1 or 2 more years, so composed for his age.

Lloyd Macklin has the distinction of being the very first goalscorer at Arbour Park in a competitive match - http://www.sloughtownfc.net/reports/5042/

Not that I'd want to sign him. We have far better quality in the squad already!

Thought I vaguely remembered him playing for or against us fairly recently.

BTW according to biography he's now retired from playing.

Regardless of who we do or don't bring in......if we are near the playoffs towards the end of next season can we promise that we bring a central defender in on loan

I'm not saying that Dan Sintim & Matt Day are related events and i'm not supersticious but is it worth taking the risk ;)

Come on just look at Tarpeys goal record... no one needs to see him live to know how good he’d be at this level!!! Anyway with 4 strikers it’s probably unlikely we’ll see a new one pre-season anyway.

Ah, I see you've got mystic powers as well as Bernie.

At present, until we're told by our managers, none of us know (apart from 3 players) who's staying, coming or going for next season.

Fank Gawd for the Slough Forum.

The rumour factory is alive and well and makes for interesting reading.

Seems the rest of this site is dying a slow painful death !!

Glad you find it interesting and are easily pleased JR    ;)

Having said that as always you can't please all of the people all of the time.

Gavin James did tweet he wouldn't be returning to STFC Is he the third man? We must assume that any player still showing on the clubs official web site as a squad member is expected to be part of next seasons squad unless things change. Reading Perry Coles last tweet in which he says Slough are a great club with great supporters and he can't wait for next season to start Its clear IMO he's staying.

Macklin will get goals?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lloyd_Macklin

Please check out his stats. He has not scored double figures in a season ever. We have 2 wide players who scored more goals last season than he has managed in any season in his career.

Please can we stop putting players on a pedastal and just assume they are better than what we have just because they played a few games (in a relegated side in this case) in the conference south last season.

And 3spirit which one of the 4 strikers who helped us get promoted would you be casting aside now to make room for this player?

Jon - thanks for this and the update in the local paper. Fans will always speculate - it's what's keeps us going close season but the vast majority of us trust you and Neil and just want what you have stated as your aim in the local paper that the squad for the most part will "stay together with the possibility of adding one or two more to that"

Between you, you built a squad capable of winning promotion at step 4, then again within 4 years at step 3. Why would we not trust you to do the same at step 2.
