Competitive budget

Reading the Slough Express it stated Neil and Jon have met with Steve and have their 2018/19 budget. Jon stated it was a competitive budget, now what that means is open to interpretation, what’s everyone’s view on that? After hearing that I’d be hopeful of a mid table maybe top 10 finish. Obviously it depends on the new players brought in and how the retained players cope with the higher level.

Yes a tricky word competitive, we’ll have to wait and see I guess! So it looks like we should only expect one maybe 2 new signings before KO. Obviously if more than expected players leave then there will be more coming in but I’m confident we’ll keep all the players we wish to.

He had our new squad strengthening signings late in the season..... Coles, Ben Harris, Day & Davies.

And we could have Gilkes & Inns recovering from injury.

If we can retain all, why would we need to do anything more than replace one or two.

By saying it's a competitive budget obviously implies that you know what other clubs budgets are in the National South.

Or perhaps it's just guesswork? Either way if it is a 'competitive' budget that would imply that a mid table finish or above would hopefully be attainable.

You have to counteract that with the fact that we are 'newbies' going into a tough league and it might take time to adjust and get it right on the pitch so regardless of whether our budget is competitive or not consolidation and being in the National South this time next season IMO should be the prime objective and anything more will be a bonus.

I’m pretty sure Neil and Jon have a decent idea of what a competitive budget is in this league. It’ll be a case of wait and see in regards to any other players coming other than what’s planned pre-season. We could be top after 10 games or bottom which will determine further player movements.

I read it as a budget where we will not struggle

I think its safe to say that the top 5 last year were already able to play at step 2 level which was proved by some cup results for each......I think Hereford even knocked a couple of big National League sides out (Eastleigh & Dagenham) so I am happy we are sticking with roughly the same squad......

I do think we will adapt squad as the season goes on but for now I'm more worried about other poaching our players than who we are going to sign

Mark44, apart from Jack Turner tweeting that he's signed a 1 year contract we don't know for sure who's staying or going yet.
