Matt..... thank you for some wonderful moments you have provided Slough Town fans this season, and thank you for the considerable part you have played in a wonderful season.

I wish you all the very best for the future, and wish you lots of success at your new club, and hope you achieve your full potential in football.

Just seen the news that Matt Lench is leaving us to join one of our rivals Wealdstone.

There must obviously be a good reason because for me Matt Lench is one one of our top players and to let him go to a rival just sounds a crazy decision.

No real reason given so would it possible to know why we've let one of our best players go?

Blimey wasn’t expecting that! Yes not great as he’s no doubt one of our best players, but from his point of view he’ll be on more money plus a better chance of progression (this season anyway!). Shame to lose him but it sounds like we didn’t pull out any stops to keep him and it seems a mutual decision?

Will he be on more money?

Wealdstone are openly saying they are cutting their budget next season.

Did not see that coming !

Always surprised when we lose someone good but as the managers have proved over time it usually means something better is just around the corner.

The close season certainly looks interesting.

Best of luck Lenchy and thanks for some great moments.

As the threads are likely to be merged, reply to RR’s original post on the other one. The managers give us a lot of info which sometimes, for a number of reasons, is not the right way to go about it. I would imagine we won’t find out much more than what’s in the original statement but from my part I’m not too surprised tbh.

Best of luck to Lenchy at Wealdstone.

Wealdstone by all accounts had a budget last season that should have got them promoted (reading their forum). Even with a reduction I think it’s safe to say he’d still be offered more than he was on with us. Plus it’s a little closer to his London work and as said Bette chance of promotion. So maybe a ‘no brainer’ on his part? Interesting the clubs’ comment on not offering him terms so does that mean we were going to release him anyway? Can’t be for football reasons maybe off the field?

Can't say I'm surprised. Lost his place in the side towards the end of the season and never hit the heights of Gainsbrough in 2018. Very good player, seemed a good guy, wish him all the best.

Like most others, not too surprised by this news. Lench was one of many players who was certain to get offers from teams this summer. Obviously for him this offer was good enough and you can easily understand why. Wealdstone will likely be near the top next season and probably offering more money. It is a clear step toward for him.

Wealdstone having announced quite a few signings today and look serious contenders.

Sounds like Lenchy blotted his copy book with our managers somewhere along the line.

I'm sorry to see him go, as he had become one of my favourite players but these things happen.

To me it's somewhat of a  bamboozling decision , as when you gain promotion to a higher division, you don't expect to get rid of your best players !

I think Neil and Jon have more than earned the right to be trusted with key decisions - look at everything they've got right over the last 5 years! We don't see everything they do and don't know the circumstances behind all their decisions.

All the best to Matt Lench, who has provided some fantastic memories - but remember he's just one player out of a squad of many.

A lot of time for Lenchy and his family. A very talented player but I'm not sure he ever really nailed down a position for us. When we were picking our teams for the play off games, none of us could really find a place for him. I think right mid was his best position but Wazza is such an important part of how we play he would always start ahead imho.

Unless it's personal why would being open with the fans sometimes not be the right way to go about it?

Most clubs are fairly secretive about transfers which is why the majority of transfer fees alone are "undisclosed".

Whatever reason a player leaves for, Neil and Jon have always been very professional and respectful not revealing much as they don't want either side to get any potential negative press. Anyway, if they told us everything what would people have to talk about on this forum and go on for many pages purely with speculation?

Everyone sees the game differently. I preferred Matt Lench in a attacking centre midfield role and would have picked him for the play-offs.

Anyway he's gone now, perhaps we will be able to pick up one of Wealdstone's  cast offs?

Mark, not sure I agree about not nailing down a position with us.

51 appearances 41 starts 15 goals, not bad for someone who never really nailed down a position for us.

Guest Wycombe Rebel

Not really surprised, the times I saw the Rebels this season, Lenchy struck me as a very good player but would be better suited to a free role in a free flowing attack and I'm not sure that's the Rebels game plan, it seemed about hard graft and try to play good attacking football where possible. To me, Scott Davies seems a far better option for the step up with Togwell to start with. I think the Kings Lynn red card was the beginning of the end and maybe the trust for being selected for the big tight games waded a little.

For the first half of the season Lench was outstanding and went through a period of great success with the team. He got injured near Xmas and went to Oz for a few weeks and whilst still performed well, IMO, never got back to the higher end of performance as he was before Xmas.

Wasn't high on the list of players I would have moved on to improve the squad, but not overly surprising either.

Big thanks to Matt - made my lad very happy by posing with him for photo when mascot for the Weymouth match.

Sorry to see him move on, but he'll want to play matches. Imagine being an unused sub in the play-off final will have contributed to his decision to leave.
